I agree with the sentiment that intense mean panic buying and also means lots of activity but no actual signinsg as other more decsivie (panicked?) clubs make the deals.

That is why I am disappointed as believe if we are serious then the Phillips deal could have been done much earlier with proper bid and really dont know why a bid fails if we agree fee but argue over payment plan.

I agree entirely. I know Cortese wants what's best for the club and won't be held to ransom but, to me, all signs suggest that he is too intransigent in his dealings, thus the signings fall through. Ok, none of us know this for certain but it seems that way. The Büttner fiasco is a case in point, 'too many fingers in too many pies' was one reason given for that deal falling through but Manchester Utd managed to sign him quickly enough which, to me, suggests that Saints, in the form of Nicola Cortese, buggered things up. I think he's probably buggered up the signings of Ramirez and Phillips, too, thanks to intransigence. Cortese needs to lighten up a bit, he can still do what's best for the club but not at the expense of bringing in a bit of quality - what concerns me is, especially now we're back in the Premier League, Saints could get a reputation for being sods to deal with and, as a consequence, we'll miss out on players as other clubs and agents will not want to deal with the club and Cortese in particular.

See spuds are close to signing Lyon goalie leaving Friedel, Cudicini and Gnomes all warming the bench. What do you reckon one of these coming to saints allowing Gazzaniga out on loan?

Rickie Lambert to Villa is one that's doing the rounds this morning. Villa have failed to sign a striker they were after, so have decided to try and prise Rickie away from us, apparently.

Billy Sharp to Forest?

Hope we keep Sharp as the only poacher type of striker in the team and we want as many options as we can. By January will have been able to see if he can score in premiership but will be good for cup games and giving others a rest.

Free agent Craig Gordon is in talks with Southampton.

Would be a good signing and a good goalie if he can stay fit. With only Gazza (only played div 2) and Cody (never played a league game) we are very vulnerable if Kelvin gets injured and surprised we have left this late. Seem to have decided on Butland with bit like our glorious chancellor we had no Plan B when that didnt happen.

Heard that Craig Gordon is to start training with Southampton ahead of him possibly joining the club. This is a trial period to see what he thinks of the club. I imagine it'll last 2 weeks to a month...

Papers at weekend said the same only was at Everton!!!

With the new year comes the fun of the January transfer window. Several deals are rumoured to be completed for multiple clubs. As for Southampton we are rumoured to be trying to get our deals done fast with some big names listed as potential signings.

I've heard of 3 players who have apparently had contact with Cortese and Adkins about moves to St Mary's from a few people. Supposedly Cortese has been busy and Saints could be about to welcome Ter Stegen to St Mary's in a player+cash deal with Boruc moving out. Further rumoured deals are Dejan Lovren being taken and Wellington Nem but the signature of Nem particularly faces stiff competition and his own club are not too willing to let the player go.

Rumoured outs for Southampton in January include Steve De Ridder with a few Championship clubs interested so as of yet we do not know where to but a high likelihood of him leaving. Further rumoured outs include Dan Seaborne permanent to Charlton, Ryan Dickson permanently (possibly a free transfer) to Plymouth Argyle and Lee Barnard may be leaving on a permanent basis to a league one side. Bournemouth are said to be interested.

Just hope we get any signings in done quickly, those going out can wait until nearer the end of the transfer window. Think we will look to sign 3 players

Southampton are looking to sign Wellington of Sao Paolo in Brazil's top flight. The midfielder would act as cover for Cork and Schneiderlin with box to box pace and a great ability to tackle. Wellington is a midfielder for Sao Paolo who has great stamina, very good pace and a great tackling ability. Plays generally Central Defensive Midfield but is a great Box to Box player.

Southampton to sign out of favour aston villa frontman Gabriel Agbonlahor for £4-5million. Also Butland £5mil or Ter Stegen (would prefer Ter Stegen) £5mil + Boruc.
Lastly Davide Astori of Cagliari although everyone has heard this one, £8-9 million.

Southampton In's from a good contact:-
-Davide Astori, we all know this one, Cortese has good contacts in Italy and Adkins wants a solid CB- around £9million
-Matt Phillips, £4million + Steve De Ridder on loan
-Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Adkins has his sights set on the young keeper but if the deal fails, Jack Butland is the backup up choice

In other non-Hooper related news, Napoli reportedly just put a bid of £6million (in euros) in for Astori. Assuming the earlier reports of our £8million bid are correct, we should hopefully be front runners. Would love to see him sign in time for the Villa match.

As for Dawson, not going to happen. He's playing regularly for them now and is wearing the captain's armband. Cannot see him leaving.

Hearing from a BCFC source that SFC (NC) has given them until tomorrow to take the offer (said to be 5m straight payment) or SFC will go else where

I was also told that Davis / Gazza will go on loan to BCFC

Us, Fulham and Wigan supposedly expressed an interest. Would make sense if lallana injury is worse than let on. Have to say didnt impress playing for West Ham when we went there earlier but then again the ball was seldom on the floor with fat Sam's lump it forward approach

would love us to sign Ter Stegan as opposed Butland but would be surprised if it happens but who knows with Cortese, just think Butland has been the number 1 choice since the summer.

Arsvin would be no sweetner on a deal for Shaw, under contract therefore no deal.

Dont think we will spend more than around £12m so think Butland or Ter Stegan + Astori + a loan(BennY), Philips would be the icing for me

Adkins says there will not be a new goalie but said today......."I would like to think that during the course of the window a couple of people will be coming in."

He also said we were not interested in Yoshida then signed him a week later. I suspect he wants to keep down expectations plus cant help the confidence of the 3 goalies we do have. Have to say will be a massive gamble if we dont do something in the goalkeeping area, Kelvin has been showing his age and tough in the premeirship when cannot relax for a minute, Gazzinger has made to many errors which reduces confidence of the back 4 and Boruc, well if anyone knows what he is going to do next they should do the lottery! It looks like Boruc has the gloves for now but that has to be a big gamble.

Saints set to offer fee to Melbourne Victory in oz for young exciting winger Marco Rojas. Rojas who is a kiwi has been attracting interest from Europe.

Be surprised if any legs in Sessengnon and Rojas would clearly be one for the future as opposed to the battle now
