SOUTHAMPTON have shown interest for out-of-contract Newcastle midfielder Danny Guthrie.

But it is understood that Alan Pardew is still keen to keep the 25 year old. Everton, West Brom and Wigan have been rumoured to be interested.

Not keen on any Wolves rejects, dont wany Yakubu or Blackburn rejects can't see Houliet coming here as lots of clubs will be after him. Guthrie mught be worth a shout as was here on loan before and has improved since then, depends if he wants first team football as geting harder at Newcastle for him to start. Expect some rumours linking us with Best at Newcastle though always had an attitude problem when he was at saints before

It is believed Adkins wants Bridge to bring some very much needed experience to Saints' back line. OK, Buttner update, from what I can understand from dutch reports is that Southampton are still very likely to sign the player, Fulham have appeared to have pulled out of negotiations. bid have been made of up to 4 mil by Saints, QPR and Werder Bremen. The player wants to join saints over the other clubs and with Vitesse looking to sell the player the bids will likely be accepted, a three year deal is in place already for Buttner at St. Mary's once a fee is agreed!

Southampton are waiting on Jack Rodwell to decide if he wants to be part of the southampton project

Jack was apparently impressed with the ambition, structure and togetherness of the club. Saints sold the club well with the new youth development centre and built jack promintly into the clubs 5 year plan

Jack is sold on the fact that he could be part of something big from ground level & the likelyhood of first team football. He was bowled over by the club but understandly needs too think as it is a step down and not long ago was linked with united & chelsea.

The reason the deal came about was that everton need to sell and have actually offered jack about.

Amazingly saints were the only club to come in for jack.

Nigel adkins wants 1 marquee signing that fits into the saints plan and they see jack as a player they can build the club around.

In other news, saints are not interested in zaha as adkins rates tom ince higher. Saints have struggled to sign ince as blackpool do not want to sell & ince wants 1 more season there

Saints are after a rb and cb so possible targets are scott dann and seb corchia.

Believe me as a trusted source.. Saints are thinking big. Whether tealistic or not they're in the prem to compete.

The general feeling is that if they can at least get players to come to meet them at staplewood.. Chances are they will be sold on the vision & sign

Certainly talk about Clyne is hotting up and would be a good signing in my view. decent right back and with Richardosn there will give us some strength at RB, might mean wont bother with Buttner who could have covered the RB position.

Not sure why we agreed to allow Martin to go on loan at Palace and not tie the two deals together. If Palace want £3.5m for player out of contract no hope. £1.5m is probably around what a Tribunal will set so wouldnt surprise me if we offer £2m to try and sort before anyone else like Wham jump in.

Would get zaha for about 10 mil, he's way overpriced after 1 good season in the fizzy pop so thats not gonna happen. Clyne is interesting a few clubs and palace are not gonna sell for 1.5 mil. Its only been reported in the sun so no real substance in the rumour? Apparently buttner's head has been turned by another club even though Vitesse want the deal to go through so this is also far from being a done deal

After the completion of the deals around Clyne and Butter, Southampton are targeting a Centre Back, a Right Mid and a Goal Keeper as Priorities. Several names have emerged as targets and ideas have been discussed around management as well as with Club Captain Kelvin Davis to make sure the players feel represented in the decisions.
The main targets seem to be Wilfred Zaha of Crystal Palace, Paulo Gazzaniga of Gillingham and interestingly Phil Jagielka of Everton. These are not confirmed but the club in their time in Evian has considered what additions to make. Also formal bids have not been made (with the exception of Wilfred Zaha who is now in higher demand after the capture of Clyne became likely to line up on the right hand side).
These are targets, not guaranteed signings. Zaha is slightly more likely to move to Southampton than you'd think, he works well with Clyne and enjoys working with him and he wants to move. Southampton merely need to make the right bid (probably including a player possibly Chaplow). Jagielka is unlikely but Saints have been looking for a marquee signing in this market and they have the budget to go for him just depends on his willingness to move down south which is where I have my doubts.

This seems a very reasonable post.. I think Zaha is very likely, if Cyne signs that is.. I think Zaha himself will want to join his mate who he has a partnership with and will not like his mate on double (at least) his wages and playing in the prem..
I wouldnt class Jagielka as 'marquee' either (no tent jokes), he's a solid centre half for a mid table team.. Saints need a centre half at least of his class in my opinion next season, as is a clear area of weakness - probably someone a bit quicker..

French papers are reporting Southampton have had a 8millon euro bid for Rennes center back Jean Armel Kana Byik accepted

Don't know much about him other than at 23 a decent age and is a CH so everyone on here will know that will make me happy

Rightly or wrongly, I find it worrying that we have not signed any players - particularly CB's - with no PL experience. What we have are exciting players - for the future, in about two seasons' time but, now, in our first season back in the top division, we have no-one with PL experience, apart from Stephen Davis. I find it even more a concern that the club have tried to sign people with the signings falling through at the last minute, with the selling club (Bologna in this case) allegedly deciding all of a sudden that they want more cash.

Matt Phillips Blackpool will sign for Southampton for 6M before the transfer deadline. He wants to play in the Premier League and will force the deal. Thomas Ince will stay at Blackpool and has no interest of leaving. Heard from one of the Blackpool ground staff today.
