JANUARY TRANSFERS
In two months we will be losing players through the transfer window. Will we be in more trouble after it or will we be able to pick up a few players to replace those returning to their parent clubs or sold to balance the books?
Pekhart - Spurs
Robinson - Sheffield U
Cork - Chelsea Will be missed
Smith - Millwall
These four will return to their clubs though I would like to think Cork could be retained till end of season.
Davis
Skacel - probably too high wage demands
Schneiderlin - Could bring in more than he cost
Surman - Almost certain to go I would think if decent offer comes in
Lallana - Could be going as one or two clubs reported sniffing around
Holmes
All would be picked in my team when fit from our squad of players
Dyer
John
Rasiak
These could also go if wanted by clubs they are on loan to.
We think we are playing with a small squad now but what on earth happens if most of these end up somewhere else? Who are the scouts eying up as replacements?

Re: JANUARY TRANSFERS
See we have picked up another loanie. Alex Pearce from Reading. Has played 8 games this season for them. Maybe someone has realised that we are in desperate need in that position. About time.
Re: JANUARY TRANSFERS
Don't think we need to worry about Holmes leaving, his injury will have put any potential bidders off for now.
Morgan, now he's a worry for me. We play much better with him in the side, he made this week's Championship team of the week and is most likely catching the eye of bigger clubs....
Out of the expiring loanees, I'd like to keep Cork. But I hear Bolton are sniffing around him.
Still, aren't we signing Gerard? ;)

Re: JANUARY TRANSFERS
True, Pekhart might work with McG playing in the hole or on the right (switching with Lallana).
Quite looking forward to our next game, always feel more confident with Morgan in the team.

Pinched from another site....
Saints linked with Whites ace19:31, November 3, 2008
Currently 0/512345Southampton look set to battle it out with QPR and Cardiff for the signature of Leeds midfielder Bradley Johnson.
The 21-year-old is currently enjoying a successful loan spell at Brighton, where he will stay until January, and the scouts are starting to flock to the Withdean Stadium.
Reports claim that Leeds will demand £1.5million for the player if they are to sell and that could put cash-strapped Saints out of the running and make QPR favourites.
Meanwhile, Southampton could also face a battle to keep hold of loan star Jack Cork as Bolton have declared an interest in taking the Chelsea star on loan when the window opens.

Re: JANUARY TRANSFERS
I feel that Chelsea would prefer him to stay with us if he is still going to be on loan. Better for him to play regularly in a club that makes him feel comfortable than one where the manager could change at any time. A new man at Bolton might not want him anyway.

Re: JANUARY TRANSFERS
Maybe he is a prospect but can't force his way into the first team. How many of our kids would be in the first team if we still had the old pro's with us? Not many is my guess. Chelsea have loaned us Cork and while he still has a good bit to learn he will do that when playing. Pekhart was supposed to be another good signing but even here he can't get a regular game. Players need games and Spurs won't be happy with his lack of time in our team. Some will make it, others won't. With the number of teams overloaded in some positions there will always be players incapable of forcing their way into their first team. These same players could prove themselves more than adequate elsewhere enabling a club to sell or use them with their improved knowledge and experience. I notice that Gerrard doesn't seem to be talked about much now so maybe he isn't doing as well this time around. We could be lucky in that our squad has grown together and could turn into a very good team. Pearce has hit the ground running and could be the best loan signing this year. Some we win some we lose.

Transfer speculation suggests revolving door at St Mary's By Ernest Hack
Posted on Wednesday 05 Nov 2008 08:02:00
If newspaper reports are to be believed, then Southampton could be looking at one star player in and one out when the transfer window opens again at the start of January. However, of these two possibilities, the exit of Jack Cork is the only one with any genuine potential.
Premier League side Bolton Wanderers have reportedly expressed an interest in taking the Saints loanee to the Reebok Stadium, also on a loan deal. Cork, who is on Chelsea’s books, would inevitably see this as a step forward in his career, having already proven himself at Championship level, first with Scunthorpe and currently with Southampton.
However, the crucial factor is likely to be whether the England Under-21 call up, still only 19, is sufficiently convinced of his opportunities for first team football. If Gary Megson and his staff can persuade Cork that chances will come his way, then it is hard to see how the promising youngster could reject this chance. On the flip side, if Cork suspects that the best he would manage would be the occasional substitute appearance, then he may decide that the guaranteed football at Southampton is better for his development at this stage of his career. After all, there’s not exactly a great amount to be learned on the Bolton training ground, is there?
Saints have also been linked with Walsall defender Anthony Gerrard, although the asking price is likely to be the main stumbling block in this particular deal.
The same also applies to Leeds midfielder Bradley Johnson. Currently on loan at Brighton, his progress is being tracked by both QPR and Cardiff, as well as the Saints. Surely, if there’s a bidding war then there can only be one winner, and it ain’t a club with Rupert Lowe in charge.
Can Saints keep Cork? And have we got a hope in Hell of acquiring a £1.5million rated player?

05 November 2008I heard a little rumour that we have agreed to be brought 'in principle' by a group of arabs... How true this is I can't say, but comes from the inside

Re: JANUARY TRANSFERS
It would be nice to find some people who actually watch our team and go through the pain as we do.
Re: JANUARY TRANSFERS
Another question that comes to mind. Is Killer again stopping us getting in a player for his position? The club news today says he trained Tuesday and could be ready for the match. The only way he will know will surely be by playing in the reserves. I loved him 4 years ago and like a lot of supporters wanted him to make a successful comeback. At first it looked good and though he was rusty we weren't too worried until his old problems seemed to reappear. His last couple of appearances were not good and I am worried that he will yet again be brought back earlier than is realistic. If only playing for the reserves he would surely get some match practise and learn whether he has a chance of another return. Are we going to wait again to hear his verdict on his fitness or will we get someone in to take his place?
Re: JANUARY TRANSFERS
From a Leeds website...
Bradley Johnson is getting some interest from Championship clubs Cardiff, Southampton and QPR.
The midfielder is currently enjoying a loan spell at Brighton, where he will be until January 3, with scouts already observing his scoring prowess at the Withdean Stadium where he has bagged three goals in two games.
But Johnson, 21, insists he wants to see out the remaining two and a half years on his present deal at Leeds and is hoping the loan at Brighton will see him get himself back into the first team scene at Elland Road.
Johnson said: "Reserve team football isn't bad for you and it gives you the chance to play games, but it's never the same as performing in front of a big crowd when the pressure's on.
"I love playing at Elland Road and the atmosphere there brings the best out of you. You need the pressure of real games, and that's why I've come to Brighton. I'm sure I'll benefit from it."

Re: JANUARY TRANSFERS
This is only a gut feeling of mine, with the current situation at St Marys we will sell players for a good profit but not buy any players only get them on loan. I hope I'm wrong

I tend to agree in part but do think if a young player can be bought for an affordable price we might. I can see us having a young team that grows together and improves enough to challenge for the Premiership next season. We just need more people watching.

Re: JANUARY TRANSFERS
Who would we like to keep out of our loanies and who do we want shot of? Have any of the big boys got a defender they might loan out?
Re: JANUARY TRANSFERS
I think Cork has been our most successful loanee of the bunch and we need him to stay. We should also try to keep Pearce unless a quality defender is available. Not sure that Pekhart has been given a fair chance to impress.
And then there's Gasmi....
Don't see much point in keeping the rest.
