It won't be Maynard as people are saying. We only ever enquired (weeks ago) and were shocked at the price they wanted.

The Sharp deal is dead. He wanted a high wage and relocation costs covered for by the club, that was a non-mover as soon as he requested it.

The striker we have chosen to pursue is Marvin Sordell at Watford, a fee in the region of 1.75m rising to 2.5m has been agreed and he will travel to Staplewood in the next few days for talks.

Another target, contrary to beliefs is not a CB - it's another winger. Keith Treacy from PNE is being sought after and we're hoping Mills impresses during his trial so he can be used as a sweeter in any deal.

That should be our business, but we are monitoring the European leagues and a surprise may come out towards the end of the window.

Nick Maynard is at Southampton this morning for a medical before signing a 4 year deal.
Bristol City accepted the saints increased offer of £4.25m
Tunisian center back, Jemal has already signed last night for £1.4m.
Both will be announced at a news conference at 5pm this evening.
Puncheon will be leaving for Millwall on a 3 year deal, costing the London club £480k.
This will conclude all cash deals for Southampton, with Chamberlaine agreeing to stay for a further season.
It's understood that Southampton have agreed they sell him if they miss promotion this season.
Adkins will now concentrate on persuading Huddersfield to loan him keeper Smithies for the season with a view to purchase next June.

Jason Puncheon looks like he will also leave with now QPR his most likely destination in a swap deal for Kasper Gorkss. The only other players to leave will be on loan for example Harlee Dean. I work for Enfields Estate agent on London Road in Southampton and I was fairly suprised when Dean Hammond walked in with Gabby Agbonlahor. My colleague David McCarthy was speaking with them and informed me that they both were looking to move into the Oceon Village area. This massively implied Agbonlahor was signing for Southampton. I was like OMG....hes an England International
They both took a few apartment details and then took off in Agbonlahors' BMW X6 with his private no plate "GA66Y XX".
I'm not a big football fan but I know Agbonlahor is quality

Southampton have bid for former striker Dexter Blackstock, Nigel Adkins is in for another striker despite having an embarrassment of riches in that area with Rickie Lambert, Lee Barnard, David Connolly and Guly Do Prado.
Blackstock left Saints in 2006 and is seen as the perfect partner for either Lambert or Barnard and will bring in excellent competition for the current striker.
The bid is believed to be in the region of £2m

I am not a 'deluded' fan, i am a normal southampton fan. Deals are done behind closed doors so we cannot be entirely sure about signings until they are on the official site.
Going by the fact the Martin is still quite young and seaborne is making mistakes left right and centre, and jaidi struggled in league1 i would expect Adkins and Cortese to bring in a CB especially see-ing as the number 5 shirt has been reserved. Also wouldn't be surprised to see a striker arrive, although i think Guly, Lambert, Barnard, Connolly and Forte are all quality, the deal for sharp fell through, so we could still be in the hunt for a striker.
As far as people leaving the club, i would only expect Puncheon and Mills as they were both left out of the squad numbers, Mills has had a trial with preston and puncheon, for some reason that blows my mind, is wanted by numerious clubs.

The transfer of Tunisian defender, Ammar Jemal from Bsc Young-Boys to Southampton is potentially in serious doubt as it has been confirmed this morning that Southampton's application for a work permit has been rejected by HM Revenue and Customs.
The club will now decide whether to appeal against the decision.

No, I agree, it will be interesting to see if they 'gel' or whether it goes horribly wrong. Buying players left, right and centre, as Leicester have done, can backfire on a club.
