Re: ALL QUIET ON FINAL DAY OF WINDOW?
'From BBC Sport's David Ornstein on Twitter: "Unless big late offer for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, he's staying at Southampton. He trained today & senior source tells me club NOT in any talks."'
Good, let's hope it stays that way.
Plenty of rumours around on SaintsWeb and other places, but nothing concrete. I think some people are plucking names out of the air, tbh. One person put 2+2 together and got five when he claimed that Beattie was coming here because he was left out of the Rangers side over the weekend and he still has a house in the Southampton area. Beattie is having a medical at Blackpool, according to the BBC.
I hope Puncheon stays and gets his act together, if not, offload him on loan until he can be sold.

Re: ALL QUIET ON FINAL DAY OF WINDOW?
See Mills has extended his stay at Doncaster until end of season, if that means we can bring back if we need to. Just with Lallana injury would have thought Mills would have been useful to have, certainly rate him more than Gobern.

Re: ALL QUIET ON FINAL DAY OF WINDOW?
Ridiculous rumours on certain other forum that Rickie Lambert is on the 1955 flight to Newcastle, ostensibly heading for St James Park as replacement for Andy Carroll who is signing for Liverpool. I think we can safely take that one with a bucketload of salt*.

Glad the bid was snubbed I think Martin is one for the future and would prefer he gets more opportunities.
Lambert was an obvious rumour with Carroll going, though if £10m was on the table?

There wouldn't have been time for them to sign Lambert, what with getting up there, all the discussions over fees, medical, etc. I would like Martin to stay, he's promising.
Puncheon looks like he's off to Blackpool, Holloway has certainly been busy today.

That was my thought too. But there's still half an hour left for something - or nothing - to happen. Nothing would nearly be as good as another signing, as it would mean we've kept our best players (Puncheon aside, but he's a sulky little git who doesn't want to play for us).
I've seen some moaning on the Echo site about this transfer window but I think it's been pretty good. Lallana is staying, so is Chamberlain (as things stand at 2230), Chaplow was a bloody good bit of business for £50k, Guly is a good signing, I think N'Guessan will be useful and we now also have Jonathan Forte, who may not score many goals but has loads of pace and who NA obviously rates highly (another Antonio type?).
What those who claim the club doesn't have any money (as I have seen on the Echo website, etc) are forgetting is that we're a League 1 club so players might not want to come here. What's the point of being loaded if you're fat and have a face like the back end of the Queen Mary 2?!

Re: ALL QUIET ON FINAL DAY OF WINDOW?
That's it, the window is closed until the summer. This hasn't been a bad transfer window either. The squad's been strengthened, a couple of good loans have been made permanent and we kept our two best players, it's been better than I expected. So unless someone was signed at the last minute and it gets announced tomorrow, that's it.

Re: ALL QUIET ON FINAL DAY OF WINDOW?
Pleased that we kept the players we want though would have liked to see a striker with a proven goal scoring record. Overall more plusses than negatives.
Re: ALL QUIET ON FINAL DAY OF WINDOW?
And still the rumours keep coming........
"31 Jan 2011 22:34:55
Marco Streller set to join southampton F.C for undisclosed fee although may not be announced until after the deadline as they finalise the details!"
This would be absolutely fantastic if true but much more chance that pigs will fly!

Re: ALL QUIET ON FINAL DAY OF WINDOW?
Overall probably good window in basis have kept hold of Lallana and Chamberlain, Chaplow and Guly signed and as you say Forte and Nguessen may turn out a bit like Antonio and Waigo.
I take the point about being fat and ugly though most rich blokes still manage to score! Just would have liked another creative midfield player (Woolford, Pugh, Harley, Wright) and an out and out striker. Promotion is crucial for us this season as if we dont go up most players will leave.
Still might be a loan next week when that window opens, god its like a soap opera!!!!!!!!!!!!

But fat, ugly women who are rich? It's entirely different for them, isn't it?
You're right about the soap opera aspects, it's like fantasyland. And when you look at the likes of Liverpool spending £35 million on Carroll and Chelsea, who are £71 million in debt, splashing out £50 million on Torres and £21.3 million on David Luiz it's beyond ludicrous. I want us to go up back to the Championship and I'd like to see us back in the Premier League one day but part of me wonders if we really want to be back in that lunatic asylum, where the playing field is definitely not level. Maybe a giant club really will go bust one day and things will get sensible, but I am not holding my breath.
