New Signing
According to the Bristol Evening Post, Bristol Rovers striker Rickie Lambert is on his way to us in a £1million deal.
He certainly knows where the net is .........scored 29 goals last season and hopefully the same for us this season

Re: New Signing
From a nameless website....
Saints are set to complete a deal to sign Bristol Rovers striker Rickie Lambert for a fee that could rise to £1m.
Lambert was the joint-leading scorer in the whole of the Football League last season with 29 goals, and has scored 78 league goals in the last four years.
Saints fans will probably remember him from the ill-fated FA Cup fifth round match at the Memorial Ground two years ago, when he scored a late winner with a deflected free-kick to send Rovers into the quarter-finals at our expense.
The Bristol Post are reporting that the fee is £800,000 up front with a further £200,000 due depending on appearances, goals and the Saints winning promotion back to the Championship.
This signing shows real intent from the club to bounce back at the earliest possible opportunity, and is a real coup considering he’s been linked with moves to the Championship for the last year and a half.
It’s unclear whether he’s been signed in time to feature in tomorrow night’s Carling Cup tie against Northampton Town.
The 27-year-old began his career at Blackpool, although he made little impact for the Seasiders, making only three substitute appearances before a free transfer move to Macclesfield. He scored 8 goals in 44 games before making a record £300,000 move to Stockport County, where he netted a further 18 times.
Having fallen out of favour at Edgeley Park, he made a switch to neighbours Rochdale, where his career really began to take off, scoring 28 times in a year before making a deadline-day £200,000 switch to Bristol Rovers. In three years at the Memorial Ground, he has a goals-to-game ratio just short of 1 in 2, and was an ever-present last season, finding the net 29 times which, along with Swindon’s Simon Cox, saw him win the Football League’s Golden Boot.
He also scored on the opening day of the season in a home defeat to Brentford, which proved to be his last in a Rovers shirt.
If he can continue that sort of goalscoring form for us, he could prove an inspired signing by Alan Pardew.

Fantastic signing and isn't it brilliant to see Saints showing a bit of ambition but without buying unproven players.

Re: New Signing
As West Brom and Boro were supposedly in for Lambert we did well to get him...Great signing.
Just need to get rid of Rasiak and Saga now as they are too good for us A pacey wideman and a lump at the back should hopefully make the minus 10/9 a distant memory

Re: New Signing
I am delighted. He is a proven goalscorer at this level and should be fit as he has been prepared for the season at Rovers. The cup game will give him a little time to get to know the team. Being 6' 3" he should be good in the air. Now we need a quality wide man who is also able to put in a shift defending. Give us a good strong CB and we will start to look like a real team capable of going places. My hopes are rising by the week.
Re: New Signing
An excellent signing, he should get loads of goals.

Re: New Signing
I am very pleased with this signing, and also with the fact he has been given the number 7 shirt.
I am now also very pleased that Stern John turned down our contract offer, as if he had stayed I doubt we would have signed someone who IMO is a far better player.

And don't lets forget Saints have reason to be grateful for at least two magnificent sevens, MLT and, before him, a certain Terry Paine!!!

Re: New Signing
Both were and are real legends. Good number to wear when you have some quality. Lambert scores a few goals over the next few years and he could well join them. Maybe not to the same degree but as someone who led the recovery with his goals. Like Minsk has said he has a lot more going for him than John.
Re: New Signing
Great news! Rickie is a serious goal machine. Check out some of these beauties!

Re: New Signing
I have posted this on a Rovers Forum. It will be interesting to see if any of their supporters venture here.
Subject: HAVE WE MADE A GOOD BUY??
As a life-long Saints fan (now living in Scotland) I am delighted that Alan Pardew has signed a much-needed striker. Starting the season with a 10-point deficit, and a skeleton team something had to be done urgently.
Do you think Lambert will help us? Is he quality? Is he fit? Is he a fighter?
The folks on Southampton World would love to hear what you think at www.ohwhenthesaints.net
They are a friendly bunch and I promise you will get away unhurt!!

Re: New Signing
Really pleased with the signing of Lambert,i feel it is, as Pardew has said , a declaration of intent on their behalf.they have now shown their hand & ambition and clubs will now know we will pay top dollar on transfer fees and wages.Hopefully we will not pay over the odds for anyone, but players i feel will be queuing up to come to us now, happy days indeed.

A reply on the Rovers' Forum and my response.....
gasheaduk says:
He's got a phenomenal strike on him, but he's not got any real pace and sometimes he goes missing in games. At this level he should continue to thrive but in the second tier he may get found out. But in saying that, you can't really argue with 29 goals can you?
SaintsMike replies:
A phenomenal strike = great
29 goals = wonderful
No real pace = no improvement on what we already have
Goes missing in games = something we're used to from some of our others and not something we want more of.
Oh well, guess we'll have to wait and see. Most of our regulars on Southampton World are optimistic about this so I hope he will do the business. If willing to talk about it with Saints fans please come to www.ohwhenthesaints.net

Would be nice to hear from them. Maybe later in the season as well at our Rovers matches we will get a bite.

Mmm - Bristol Rovers?
I wonder if it was the service that went missing.
And does Lambert need pace? It seems to me, he just turns on the spot and shoots from anywhere on the pitch.
Some amazing goals!

Re: New Signing
I hope Rasiak has a change of heart and stays. The minute he came on we scored our second. I believe he could tear div 1 apart if working in partnership with Lambert ................ time will tell. Football is all about building momentum, and the positive vibes shining out of St Mary's right now are infectious. I believe very good times are just around the corner.

Re: New Signing
If we can get through the next few games and clear the defecit we will really start to buz. The players will all be happier as well once they can see that we have started to climb away from the bottom of the league. Please let us have a good result on Saturday and then the momentum could really build. We do have some tough games though in the next four or five so we have to be realistic and expect the odd reversal. We can all hope though and another signing or two will help us no mistake.
Re: New Signing
According to the OS today, Pardew is hoping to make at least one more signing in time for Saturday.
