Starting Eleven against Ipswich?
You know the idea now.......forecast Saints starting eleven for Wednesday's match with Ipswich and we'll see who gets most right.
Re: Starting Eleven against Ipswich?
Don't have much time to see how fit the kids will be after such a hard game. Surman looks like he needs a rest.I would like to see Jan try a different tactic especially as we are at home.We do have to play Pekhart from the start.
Re: Starting Eleven against Ipswich?
I was a very late entrant for the QPR match (having only just joined the forum in time to air my view) so I shall go first this time around.
I think Jan will go with:
----------------------Kelvin----------------------
James------Cork-----------Perry-----Surman
--------------Wotton-------Gillett--------------
--------------------Spiderman------------------
Lallana-------------------------------------Dyer
--------------------McGoldrick-------------------
However, I would go with:
----------------------Kelvin----------------------
James------Cork-----------Perry-----Surman
--------------Wotton-----Spiderman----------
--------------------Lallana------------------
McGoldrick-------------------------------Skacel
-----------------John (or Pekhart)--------------

Re: Starting Eleven against Ipswich?
I'll try...
Davis, James, Cork, Perry, Surman, Wotton, Schneiderlin, Gillett, Lallana, McGoldrick, Pekhart
But, of course, it could be some will need to be rested.

Sydenham as well. Him and Paine were a really good outlet for our style of play.

Great idea......but I doubt whether you will score many points for picking the same players as Mr Poortvliet!

Re: Starting Eleven against Ipswich?
I will try this lot :-
Davis
James Cork Perry Scacel
Wotton Schneiderlin
Lallana
McGoldrick Dyer
Pekhart
Subs :- John Bialkowski Mills Surman Gillett
Ipswich are normally bad away but have had a fair start.
Would like Mills to get a kick if game allows.

Re: Starting Eleven against Ipswich?
Are we in turmoil as this pinch from another website suggests??
'Saints left in turmoil

After the injury sustained by Lee Holmes on Sunday, Saints are now even more woefully short of left-sided players, with very limited options available to Head Coach Jan Poortvliet. Apart from Holmes, Andrew Surman has been the only left-footed player to significantly feature for the club this season, playing somewhat out of position as it is, in a left-back role. With so many games coming up, many people will be wondering how the squad will cope in this predicament.
Following the QPR game, a scan on Monday revealed that Holmes has medial ligament damage that will probably keep him out of action for around two months. As the left winger admitted to the club’s official site, it couldn’t have come at a worse time.
“We have a lot of games coming up in quick succession so we need as many people to be available as possible. I guess I was just unlucky.”
Poortvliet has choices, but none of them are ideal.
Nathan Dyer was Holmes’ replacement, and looks likely to remain so for the time being. But with Surman playing more defensively than he is totally comfortable with, it doesn’t seem sensible to play another player out of position on that left side, which will certainly become our weak area.
The only other left-footed players in the squad are Joseph Mills and Rudi Skacel.
Mills made his first team debut, after impressing in pre-season, at home to Birmingham in the cup. He did well and offers a more defensive option at left-back, potentially freeing up Surman to move into midfield. However, this would mean that the defence lacks even more experience than they would otherwise with Surman staying back.
Despite failed attempts to off-load him in the summer and the player’s desire to move away in order to gain first-team football, Skacel remains at the club and is back training with the first team. Therefore, it would make sense to utilise him at some point in the next few weeks.
Poortvliet seems unconvinced of the merits of keeping a bad apple in among his blossoming young squad, but nevertheless opened the door to Skacel, who certainly has something to offer the team. Whether at left-back or as the left-sided attacker, Skacel adds experience and a level of quality. But the jury is clearly still out on whether he will also add other undesired elements to the fragile dressing room.
Poortvliet has some tough choices ahead of him, with plenty of questions to ask of his players and no easy answers. Either way, whatever he decides, I’d be prepared to bet that Holmes will walk straight back into the side as soon as he stops hobbling.
Which combination would you opt for on the left side?'
