The fact that Fulham seem delighted to have him off their hands doesn't do a lot for my confidence.

From a Fulham forum......

Stekelenberg -- Nick the Greek, Monday, June 22, 07:56:36pm (NoHost/31.55.127.253)
Appears to be on his way to Southampton

Replies:

I thought this was a really smart signing when we got him. What a flop he was. (NT) -- Trick, Monday, June 22, 10:18:41pm (cpc3-lea22-2-0-cust872.6-3.cable.virginm.net/82.3.251.105)
He was a lovely player like Darren, Scotty, Amor, Kieran, and the other guys. In fact it was the best Fulham squad in our history. (NT) -- Martin "talking sense" Jol, Tuesday, June 23, 03:21:45am (NoHost/137.54.6.142)
Magath finished his career with us, his "too quiet jibe". Anyone who saw his debut against Sunderland away knew we brought a real talent. He will flourish under Koeman at Southampton (NT) -- Ted, Tuesday, June 23, 07:50:29am (host-80-43-140-46.as13285.net/80.43.140.46)
Anyone who saw him concede badly at stages that mattered at places including Cardiff, Leicster, Everton will have the impression that he wasn't all that after all. That impression pre-dated Magath. (NT) -- b+w geezer, Tuesday, June 23, 08:42:22am (host86-133-171-231.range86-133.btcentralplus.com/86.133.171.231)
And I doubt he will flourish at Saints, more sit on the bench. Forster's out for a while but Gazzaniga's a good keeper, no worse than Stek. (NT) -- Everybody Lies, Tuesday, June 23, 08:57:04am (host86-128-72-185.range86-128.btcentralplus.com/86.128.72.185)
You don't play in World Cup finals if your a poor goalkeeper. Stek will do well for Southampton (NT) -- Ryan, Tuesday, June 23, 09:29:54am (cust75-dsl93-89-132.idnet.net/93.89.132.75)
You do if you're Brazilian (NT) -- Pennywise, Tuesday, June 23, 10:07:49am (NoHost/81.145.233.10)
You've certainly got me sussed out. I was goalkeeper in the greatest team that ever kicked a football - and I was rubbish (even when I was alive). (NT) -- Felix (no, not that one), Tuesday, June 23, 01:56:09pm (cpc12-nmal18-2-0-cust598.croy.cable.virginm.net/94.174.10.87)
His mistake at West Brom sent us down. He was useless. (NT) -- Rupert, Tuesday, June 23, 10:41:30am (NoHost/82.108.140.98)
Yes, it was very little to do with the 743 goals that we had conceeded that season prior to that one. (NT) -- Jim©, Tuesday, June 23, 02:55:22pm (irdsl08.gotadsl.co.uk/84.12.87.76)
He was spotless until Magath came in and proceeded to have three shockers. He's never played for us since... (NT) -- The Analyst, Tuesday, June 23, 04:48:38pm (85-211-110-96.dynamic.dsl.as9105.com/85.211.110.96)

Still think the club have been short sighted on this. While Forster is clearly their planned number 1 this injury was always going to take time to heel and worse case scenario is he could never be as good again. They should have got in a younger goalie who would challenge Forster long term or be his permanent replacement if they had to but seem unwilling to upset Forster or pay the money. Kelvin loyal servant he is, is not good enough and I still do not believe Gazzaniga will ever be good enough and certainly wont be sat on the bench again. This could really come back to haunt us this season and annoying as there have been decent goalies out there that would have done the job, MCarthy the ex Reading goalie will be moving as Green staying at QPR and would have cost 3 -4 million a, Vfm insurance policy.

Hopefully stekenelburg either shows he is back to his best form or has a nightmare next few weeks so we can get someone else if we need to.

Why did Gazza play the latest game???  Is Koeman maybe thinking of giving him a chance as first choice?

I sincerely hope not, I would suspect he is seeing if he really can be the back up choice, if he has doubts then he needs another goalie, as I have said for a long time. I think Gazza needs game time but the premier league is simply not the place to learn his trade.

Will be interesting who starts against Vitesse plus the Espanyol friendly is now looking a waste of a game, squeezed in between both Europa cup ties he will not be able to afford to risk many first teamers in that game, why I suspect the tickets are a tenner!
