'Poortvliet hails recalled Skacel
Southampton boss Jan Poortvliet was delighted with the contribution of Rudi Skacel during Tuesday night's goalless draw at Sheffield United.
The Czech international was frozen out during the early part of the season as Saints attempted to shift some of their big earners, and then suffered an injury playing for the reserves.
But he was drafted in at left-back for his first appearance of the season at Bramall Lane and put in a solid shift as Saints battled to earn a point following successive defeats.
"Rudi is an experienced professional and he knows the game better as a defender," said Poortvliet. "At the end he was a little bit tired after a difficult time, but he did a good job."

Re: Skacel in Jan's good books....
That is about how I saw it. Sounded as though he had Webber in his pocket till he grew more and more tired. Still got in the way of a goalbound shot though.
Re: Skacel in Jan's good books....
It's good to see him back. Hope his attitude is now right.
And he just might be our answer for penalties.....

Perhaps we could do as in American football and carry a penalty taker.47 out of 48 speaks volumes for his confidence.

Have Le Tiss on the bench and bring him on if a penalty is awarded??
