Saints plans hit by injury

SAINTS could face a switch back to 4-5-1 this afternoon with David Connolly and Adam Lallana set to miss the trip to Northampton.

Both players are struggling with injury and are not expected to play in the second round FA Cup tie.

Saints are already without Kelvin Davis, who sustained a groin injury in Tuesday’s 3-1 win at Hartlepool. Neal Trotman is also out with a one-match suspension, while Jacob Mellis is not being allowed to play in the cup by his parent club, Chelsea.

Connolly has picked up a groin problem, while Lallana is struggling with a knee issue, meaning the list of absentees has grown further.

We will just have to let a couple of reserves grab the headlines.

It's probably not a bad thing that we're missing a few players for this match. It gives others the chance to shine and besides, (I know I am committing heresy by saying this, not doubt) it's not as important as the League.
I hope Lallana's 'knee issue' is not too bad, Awful things, knees. Connolly's groin problem's a worry as well, wasn't it his groin that kept him out for two years?

I'm more concerned about Connolly's injury, given his previous long term problems with the same problem.

Agree has to be a concern as connolly really looks to be a great prospect if he can stay fit and neither Waigo or Antonio look like being regular goalscorers. Of course with Lambert and Lallana all you need is a tight defence and will still win, shame we cant stop conceding goals! Problem seems to be when we do go 4 5 1 Lambert is isolated where as if he is in or around the box he is always a threat.

See Murty also is doubtful for tomorrow which has to be a concern as he brought much needed experience on saturday.

According to Radio Solent Connolly will have a late fitness test tomorrow to see if he can play. I hope we can read into that that he is not as bad as feared.

As for Lallana, again according to the radio, it was a back problem he had before the game, rather than his knee.
