JANUARY APPROACHES.....
With Saints slipping worryingly down the table, maybe the club should be seriously thinking about strengthening things in January. What positions are most in need of new signings?
And are we likely so see anyone transferred out?

Re: JANUARY APPROACHES.....
Well a striker is essential and Austin is the obvious player, will we bid £8m, for me it would be obvious.
They may well decide to get rid of Wanyama as he is detracting from the team and wonder if we will try a swap with spurs for Townsend. May be a deal would work out for both players as Townsend is out of favour at Tottenham and does add a goal scoring touch when on form, play him instead of Tadic.
would prefer no more buys from Holland /Italy and would rather take a punt on a lower league player if we wanted another right back, the Leeds player was rated before.
I would also send Caulker back, we must have a youngster better than him so pointless keeping him, I would also get rid of Martina, as hopeless and blocking a place for one of the youngsters, who if not good enough lest see.
So Townsend and Austin in would make me happy with Wanyama, Martina and Caulker gone

Re: JANUARY APPROACHES.....
That sounds about right Matty. And I agree, please no more Eredivisie players.

Re: JANUARY APPROACHES.....
I like your ideas Matty, particularly about Austin or another striker who can hit the net regularly.
Don't somehow see Saints doing that much business. Maybe the one incoming player, can't see much more happening.

Re: JANUARY APPROACHES.....
I think if we had been sitting 7/8th there would have been no activity. I sincerely hope the board recognise how it could all go wrong but they can be a bit arrogant thinking we can survive this season then buy in summer. A very dangerous gamble if they take that approach.

Re: JANUARY APPROACHES.....
Hate to see Saints lose but in a way it might be better if we get thrashed in the next couple of games, hopefully then the club will see that they need to buy.
Re: JANUARY APPROACHES.....
Double edge sword though as will mean obvious a bit of a struggle so harder to sign players, Austin wont sign if he thinks a relegation battle. So a couple of draws (0-0) will help keep the points board ticking over, good for confidence but keep the focus on signing a striker

Re: JANUARY APPROACHES.....
Well I certainly don't see us paying out £18m on a single player so don't think much mileage in Imbula, we are short up front and personally wouldn't mind Naysmith on loan, would add some energy to the side and if he is looking for games a loan might suit. Juts hope if we are going to do business we do early and not wait until end of month, takes a few weeks to bed players in especially if from another country, which is why for me Naysmith, Austin, or Townsend would be better bets, not all 3 of course

Re: JANUARY APPROACHES.....
Think they are all in denial if they think this squad is good enough, not enough energy nor creativity. The board did not invest when we were doing well this time last season and paying the penalty. Can't see them spending much at all, maybe a loan or two. Lack of leadership I' m afraid

Seems to be a fair amount of activity/rumours but little mention of saints
