Michael Svensson will not play for Saints again until he is 100 per cent fit.
The Swedish centre half used the international break to go to Italy to train with his specialist.
He reported back feeling in good health again after missing the last three games with problems surrounding his troublesome knee.
Saints head coach Jan Poortvliet would love to have his captain available but the decision has been taken that Svensson needs to be able to come back and play consistently rather than rushing him in and then seeing him have to sit games out again.
Poortvliet said: “Michael had a good week in Italy. He didn’t train but had treatment in the pool and he is working hard to come back.
“They have told him to work a lot on fitness to make him stronger but everything is OK.
“Michael now needs to be fully 100 per cent before he plays.
“As a player you always remember your last game and when you played not so well because of your injury you need the next game to be 100 per cent.
“We will give him the time and hopefully he will be there and we will use him.
“He’s a human, flesh and blood, and he needs to be there 100 per cent.
“He started very early in the season to help the team but you can only help the team when you are fully fit.”

I get the feeling he'll only play a third of the season....if we're lucky.
At least we've got Jack Cork to play in his place!
