Coach takes blame for Svensson's absence
6:40am Friday 26th September 2008
SAINTS captain Michael Svensson will miss tomorrow’s trip to Doncaster – and Jan Poortvliet has taken the blame for his absence.
The head coach said he is at fault for allowing Svensson to play against Rotherham when he was not fully fit.
The 32-year-old, right, played 90 minutes in Tuesday’s 3-1 Carling Cup defeat, but will not travel to the Earth Stadium this weekend.
Although he had only trained minimally, Svensson declared himself fit to play on the day of the Rotherham game.
Poortvliet took the decision to throw him into the match at the Don Valley Stadium.
But the head coach is regretting that move, as Svensson is now not fit for tomorrow’s crucial Championship clash.
“Michael doesn’t play, he is not able to play,” said Poortvliet. “He is now in recuperation and it is honestly my fault to put him on the pitch."

Honest but a serious error of judgement. Explains a lot when looking at his performance.

Killer is keen to play and needs to be restrained if he is going to regain his mobility. Let him help the reserves by playing with them and at the same time teaching them his art. When he is ready.
