Saints sign Michail Antonio on loan
Saints have signed reading's Michail Antonio on loan, according to the Daily Echo. He's 19 years old and has 'fantastic pace and is an impact player' according to Alan Pardew. It's an initial month's loan to see how he gets on and he'll be in the squad for tomorrow night's JPT game.

Re: Saints sign Michail Antonio on loan
Shown on Reading web site as signed from Tooting & Mitcham in 2008 as a Midfield player. 5' 11" so not the smallest winger if that is where we play him. Doesnt seem to have had many games at Reading a few appearances as a sub. Would seem quite similar to Jake Thomson.
Would have preferred an experienced right back or striker for a month but doubt many available at present. Most clubs just looking to loan out youngsters.
May get the chance to see tomorrow night as no problem with playing him in the "Watch paint dry" Trophy.

Re: Saints sign Michail Antonio on loan
He was actually ok tonight and didn't give a bad account of himself at all. He showed good touches and gave Torquay a few problems, although his final ball wasn't that clever, but it'll come. I think the word that could best be used to describe him is 'raw'. I think that, given time, he'll become a good player. You can see why Alan Pardew thought fit to give him a month's loan to prove himself.

OS say loan has been extended till January and he is eligible to play in the Cup.
Re: Saints sign Michail Antonio on loan
Good news as he is our very own super sub (along with Connolly). After the Bristol Rovers game when their sub came on and promptly scored the winner against us, I wished on here for our own 'super sub' who could terrify other teams and score goals. Well, we have not one but two now. Good times indeed.

Re: Saints sign Michail Antonio on loan
At least it seems from the BBC Website that he is happy to stay for the season......
Antonio hopes for extended stay
Antonio has made two starts and four substitute appearances for Saints
Southampton winger Michail Antonio says he would like to extend his loan from Reading until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old scored his first Saints goal to help Alan Pardew's side into the second round of the FA Cup with a 3-2 win at Bristol Rovers on Friday.
He told BBC Radio Solent: "Every time I have come on I've affected the game and I can see that the manager likes me.
"I'm here until January, if he [Pardew] wants to extend it longer, I'd be happy to stay."
Antonio was rewarded for some impressive performances from the bench with a start in the FA Cup at the Memorial Stadium in place of Papa Waigo.
Previously, his only other start this season was against Torquay in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in the first week of October.
An initial one-month loan spell was extended until the new year at the start of last week.

Re: Saints sign Michail Antonio on loan
Easy deal to do as Reading clearly dont rate. I hope he improves in second half of season and would prefer used as a sub more rather than start matches as his main asset is pace which has more impact later in games

Re: Saints sign Michail Antonio on loan
After 2 good games at the start I've seen enough of Antonio to tell that he isn't very good. Usain Bolt is strong and fast. Doesn't make him good at football. To play football you need to be able to do the basics before anything else and I haven't seen Antonio make a single good pass or even an okay cross, which is essential as a winger.

Re: Saints sign Michail Antonio on loan
If I was the manager and wanted to play him it would not be as a winger. I would want him level with Lambert and would tell him to use his strength and go straight doew the middle. I must admit to being a little bemused by his performances. I thought that he would make a good team player. He has disappointed me but still has time to improve.
