New season, new owner, new manager, new players.

Only one more thing that will be needed.

New Sky TV love affair with us winning in front of the cameras and in a customer friendly style.

Not asking for too much am I?

As I am once again a season ticket holder with Twizzle I will only be able to do the commentaries on away matches. I have not had an ST for a long long time but now that this club has been saved I felt it duty bound to say thank you to our new owner.
Anybody able to do the commentary can either tune in to radio commentary on their computor via saints tv or their stereo. We are not professionals so if you feel scared of looking bad don't be. My input wasn't that bright but I just try to give something to those poor souls who are unable to attend a game through work, health, or cost. I can't make Hearts as Grace our 3yo is having her $th birthday and a party. BBQ we hope weather permitting. Why the party couldn't have been on Sunday I have no idea. Mrs SFC has to learn to adapt as my life will now revolve around our club for the first time in many a long year.

On a serious note.
What do we rate our chances against the lions and will we get into plus points by the end of the month? Who will we be playing and in what positions?

I would pick this team

Davis
Murty Jaidi? Perry Harding
Thomson Gillet Schneiderlin Mills
Lallana
Rasiak

Subs: Bart, James, Saga, Holmes, Patterson, Lancashire, Gobern

I know the midfield is lightweight but what can we do about that without having to play Wotton

I shall probably leave home at about 10am with Twizzle and Graham on tow. How nice it would be if we could start with a good performance from our team. I'm still waiting for Graham to see his first win at home. Here's hoping.

Hi SFC, et al, after a long busy summer I am back.

I reckon we have every possibility of beating Millwall, but as it's the first game of the season AND on Sky I will go for a draw.

As for the team.... Given those available I would start with:

Davis
Murty
Thomas
Perry
Harding
Lallana
James
Gillett
Mills
Saga (would have been Rasiak if he wasn't injured - or is he?)
Paterson

And I think that the only difference AP will make will be Wotton starting vice James. So expect a starting line-up like this:

---------------------Davis----------------------

Murty---------Thomas-------Perry-------Harding

Lallana-------Gillett---------Wotton---------Mills

--------------Paterson------Saga--------------

Subs: Bart, James, Lancashire, Spiderman, Thomson, Holmes, White

She has only seen one game and already has an opinion. Maybe she does listen to me after all. Good to have you back again. I would play thomson or James right midfield and put lallana into a more central slot. If Schneiderlin has added some strength to his talent he could be a good passing centre of the park player. Gillett is another who I feel could do well this season. We are desperately in need of some muscle to help us as we are as weak in midfield as ever.
My team would read
Davis
Murty
Thomas
Perry
Harding
Gillett
Schneiderlin
Mills
Lallana
Paterson
Saganoski

Hi Twizzle, thanks for the welcome.

As I said I would rather have Lloyd James, or even Morgan S, in there but it would make for a very youthful midfield. That's why I think AP will play Wotton, for a bit of experience in the centre.

I am hoping for a few more signings before the end of the month. At least one (I would go for 2) CB, a midfielder and a fwd (or 2 if both Rasiak and Saga go).

I pretty much agree with all you say, especially about Gillett.

I would like to have seen James on the right and Lallana up front with Rasiak, but I don't think he (Adam) would work well with Saga (no height for a start). I think Millwall would walk through the centre of our midfield with Lallana playing at CM.

The only other option would be to have the three other midfielders (i.e. James, Gillett and Mills) play more narrow and give Lallana the freedom to roam behind the front two. This would lose us width though (apart from the fullbacks running down the flanks) and would put a lot of faith in AL's abilities. It could work in the future though, if the players practise it enough in training.

I agree about our lightweight midfield. Only problem now is that Wotton is so terribly slow. Like you i want two CB's brought in. Perry will struggle if he has to play so many games and Thomas is injury prone. Rasiak not playing tells me that he is going, and soon. Saga doesn't appear to care so we need one or two strikers as well. A larger version of Gillett would also make a big difference to the midfield. We have to decide quickly whether we can carry Schneiderlin if he hasn't added some muscle. Last season he seemed to lose heart once he realised that he wasn't going to be allowed time and space to operate.

Notes

Southampton are set to hand debuts to Dan Harding and Graeme Murty and fellow defender Wayne Thomas (back) could play after almost a season out injured.

Want away striker Marek Saganowski is likely to feature up front alongside teenager Matt Paterson.

Millwall have a defensive crisis - with Zak Whitbread, Tony Craig and Andy Frampton doubtful, and Danny Senda and Paul Robinson definitely out.

New faces Steve Morison, John Sullivan and Jason Price could all play.

The Lions finished seven points short of automatic promotion last season due in part to defeats in their last three games on the road.

The London club have not won on the opening day for five seasons, and are kicking-off away from home for the third season running.
