DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE POST-MATCH REACTION Empty Re: DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE POST-MATCH REACTION

Good result and was as comfortable as 4 - 0 score line suggests. Chamberlain given match start along with Chaplow. Scrappy start but Saints soon got to grips using the flanks and Chamberlain gave the Daggers full back a taste of what he could experience with a few runs and beating his player. His first and saints first goal came as he burst down the right beat the full back then another daggers player went back to beat them again before putting in a deep cross, Goalie under pressure from Barnard made a hash of the cross and ball went in to far side of goal.

Saints second should have come from Lallana who had a free header from 5 yards out but put wide off the post, with Lambert behind him unmarked really should have done better.

Game got a bit scrappy but when ever ball got to Chamberlain we were a threat. Second goal with 10 minutes to half time was unbelievably a carbon copy of first goal. Chamberlain out wide on right, beat the full back deep cross. goalie caught flat footed and fell into side of goal.

Second half more of the same, third goal came about 10 minutes in with some crisp passing putting in Lallana from the left cut inside , great ball across the face of goal and Barnard good finish from about 6 yards. Fourth goal was always going to come (my prediction was 4 nil tonight!) this time Chamberlain burst down left looked like would struggle to get the ball but hit great cross which Fonte met with a firm header past their goalie.

Saints took off Barnard and Lambert to clearly rest bringing on Bignall and Guly. Bignall had a couple of good shots and showed some good potential. Chamberlain went off to standing ovation for Schneiderlin to come on. Little real threat from Dagenham who in all honesty looked the poorest team we have played this year. Couldn't fault their effort and never gave up but woefully short in terms of skills and will be a long season for them.

Clearly Chamberlain was man of match but thought Chaplow had an excellent game, was always putting in the tackles disrupting their play when they had the ball. Maybe not be the classiest player but think he is what we have been missing in midfield.Plus Hammond had a much better game plenty of running, amazing what a bit of competition can do.

20000 for a mid week game was also pretty good.

Davies 7 flapped at a couple of crosses but not really troubled and some good throws.
Richardson 7 Good in the air but rusty on a couple of occassions but looked okay.
Seaborne 8 Thought he had another good game commanding in the air.
Fonte 8 Not really troubled and again got a good goal
Harding 7 good solid game
Lallana 7 not one of his best in 1st half but created problems 2nd half and great assist for Barnards goal.
Hammond 7 Pretty good game
Chaplow 8 impressed me tonight with his never give up attitude
Chamberlain 10 2 goals, an assist, threat all night and was hard to knock off the ball ball.
Barnard 7 hard working and good goal
Lambert 7 worked well some nice touches would just like to see more activity in box.

Out of subs Bignall looked a threat.

Onwards and upwards but some tough games in November but this squad are beginning to play to their potential, 4 nil win tonight but still more in the locker and if Lambert can hit form we will be challenging for top two places.

Great report Matty, thanks!

This was the first time Puncheon has been dropped?

Pity there is no League 1 Team of Week for midweek games, would have been nice to see Chamberlain named.

A very good result and shows that Saints are capable of beating - albeit weaker - sides without putting in 100% effort. A bit disappointed we took our foot off the gas and didn't get even more goals (I know, greedy. Rolling Eyes ) as I'd love us to give someone a real hammering as that's something this team are more than capable of. Now the teaqm needs to keep the momentum going and take points from the top teams.
