CAN SAINTS HOLD ON TO LALLANA AND SHAW??
There have been many newspaper suggestions that Saints stars will be moving on this summer, and the main worries seem to be that Lallana and Shaw will be off.
Tempting though a large offer may be I hope the club can keep them as it is unlikely we will be able to attract new players of the same quality. Maybe we should now be offering new contracts so lucrative that the players will want to stay? It seems to me that that would be money better spent than a large transfer fee for a player who, like Osvaldo, may not fit in.......

Interesting comment about living within our means. does that mean that may have to sell to reinvest? Guess depends how you interpret but if we do not continue to invest in improving the team then our best players will be tempted to leave. If Guly, Jos, Yoshida leave in summer then no major loss if replaced with better players but cannot afford to lose the likes of Adam, Morgan or JRod, I could probably accept Shaw leaving if an offer of £30k and we got in Bertrand for £5m then spent the rest on a couple of top players Bony from Swansea and a decent goalie.

I am guessing...and only guessing....that the 'within our means' comment is to explain potential limited outlay in the transfer market this summer, and maybe why we cannot offer our manager and players sky-high wages to keep them here.
I am going to try to keep an open mind on the new set-up until we see what things look like next season.

Similar to you Mike action speaks louder than words so will wait and see what happens when it comes to buying and selling players, which I suspect will be the key to whether Pochitino stays.
Don't mind not spending loads if we keep everyone, don't mind selling Shaw if funds are reinvested in team, lets wait and see

Re: CAN SAINTS HOLD ON TO LALLANA AND SHAW??
Quite pleased that Real Madrid may enter the debate as means it starts talking serious money. Sure Chelsea thought they would get him on the cheap, £20m for England LB for years to come is cheap, just because he supported Chelsea as a kid. So if RM place a bid of £30m then the others will have to match or saints can easily say no without upsetting Luke. Plus Luke would be that willing to go to RM straight away, that would be a big step and think that might tempt him to stay for at least another season, which at the moment is the best I think we can hope for.
If Chelsea are prepared to stump up £30m then think will be hard for both club and player to say no.

Re: CAN SAINTS HOLD ON TO LALLANA AND SHAW??
Are Ashley Cole's wage demands out of the question? Chelsea no longer want him and if we may be losing Luke Shaw, we could be glad of his services for a season or two couldn't we??
Re: CAN SAINTS HOLD ON TO LALLANA AND SHAW??
I'm not surewould want him as salary demands could upset the rest of the squad and suspect he will go to someone like Monaco where he wont pay tax though wouldn't be surprised if Man U went for him if we stick our heels in on Shaw.

At least think he will stop them getting in a strop and throwing toys around , that wont look good when dealing with an experienced and well respected manager. Still think Shaw will leave not convinced about Lallana as Liverpool will want to play a waiting game as they never have a lot of cash to spend so they will go for a cheaper and inferior product!

Some real dense Utd fans. Shaws value at £30m is what his value is to us, they want to sign the best players but then think they can get them on the cheap. Shaw will be England left back for the next 10 years, and who ever he does eventually sign for, and sure will go at some stage gets a world class defender. That costs money, either pay up or shut up. yes you can buy good left backs for less but you wont get someone like Shaw

I just hope Shaw keeps his head together, have a nasty feeling he will be headline news but not sports page on the Times but front page of red tops

Re: CAN SAINTS HOLD ON TO LALLANA AND SHAW??
Problem is the board have set a precedent where players can leave if they want at any time, they have to show some back bone with players on long contracts and simply be willing to say no not going until contract ends.
Looks like Schneiderlin next to create and Lovren with Lambert, Lallana and Shaw gone that is arguably our best 5 players, JRod aside, who have left from last season, building a team if you lose one or two is doable but your best 5 is a recipe for disaster which is why the Board need to grow some and not care what a player wants, to be honest bung them £10 grand a week more and they will soon start smiling.
Best news for me would be for next person to leave St Marys is Reed, his ego wont fit through the door though and he has single handedly overseen this mass exodus, simply over promoted and useless in role he is now in. His arrogance we can replace them all is totally flawed and unfortunately Katarina has put him in charge thinking he knows what he is doing, Cortese had him in his place as a yes man that did what he was told.

I see that Lallana has just done his knee and will be out for weeks.
