Alessandro Del Piero - seriously?

Saints are linked with Italy legend Alessandro Del Piero, according to rumours and this. Stranger things have happened in football, but Del Piero is 37 and probably past it. And would he come here?
My reaction is this but, as I said, stranger things have happened (didn't George Best play for Bournemouth once?)...

It seems he will be going to Sydney. I don't blame him. Australia vs the UK? I know what I'd do, despite the huge spiders.

Still a few out of contract players that we can sign, prefer a goalie or defender but Del Piero would be interesting if he did sign and Adkins has implied might still be a new face

Now for the money we were going to pay him can we find a couple of top class out-of-contract defenders?

Only if the defenders are out of contract. any decent ones out there now so think will be a case of making the best with what we got.

As an alternative why not bring in a top defensive coah for a few months to work on the defence as a unit (Adams?)

Good idea but doubt whether they will think of that......
