I wouldn't get too excited just yet, rumours abound of the deal not yet being done and people jumping the gun just a little bit. I have also read, via Saints Web, that he's also talking to Liverpool. It will be annoying (and not to mention embarrassing given the excitement on the various fora and media message boards) if, after all the hype and reports, he ends up not signing after all.

I agree until the deal is signed shouldnt be getting to excited. Seems to be some questions if fee has been agreed with Bologna re final amount and terms (not the first time that been an issue). So if the player has agreed terms sort out with club, put pen to paper get all the signatures and then announce. Also wouldnt rule out spivs coming back in with a bid to save face losing out to us and know Modric will be sold despite what they keep saying.

Dont think Work permit will be an issue but would be needed.

Hope the deal goes through but look at the Buttner deal and in that case player was keen to sign!

No wonder Cortese and Saints play their cards close to their chest, they get slated for it in some quarters but this sort of fiasco is what makes the club - and, by default, fans - look like mugs. It's not the club's fault, but rather that of the player and media jumping the gun.

well Cortese will need to move quick to secure this deal and undo some of the strings which look like we have attached, not enough money up front being one of those. Not the first time we have lost out on a bid not so much the price but other issues. We could have signed Phillips before he went to Blackpool but no add on fees and not all (400k) up front meant we were told to go away.

I hope that breakthrough is that Saints have signed him and not that Liverpool have hijacked any deal.

I see that prize w@nker Lawrenson has said that there is 'no way that Ramirez will sign for Southampton'. Makes me want the deal to go through for that reason alone.

Yes, it's them discussing (and failing to agree on) a repayment schedule. Bologna need to borrow money because they are broke but the bank won't let them unless it coincides with Saints' repayment schedules.

Seem's the deal's off now.

He wants what's best for the club and, by and large, does a good job of it BUT when it comes to transfer dealings I don't think he knows a lot about football (mind you neither do I know about that side of the game but I am not paid to). Football is different from 'ordinary' business dealings.
