Next Ten Shape Season

With ten down, the next ten games will shape the season for Saints.
Its not been an easy start for Saints, but after the turmoil of the last year, there cant be many supporters who will be too surprised at our current league position and if they are honest too disapointed either.
Its also time to put the past behind us, and look to the future and with this in mind the next ten games are crucial forthe future of Southampton Football Club both on and off the field, but th truth of the matter is that if the club want the fans to come back then they are going to have to give them a reason, to be blun this is no different from lawrie McMenemy's perception of Saints support, back in the 70's he said that in Newcastle when the team is struggling the fans give them something and expect it back from the team, down here its the other way round, the team has to give something to the fans before the fans chip in.
Hopefully the team is only getting better with experience so if it can at least replicate its 11 points from 10 games in the next couple of months then it will have a solid base to build on in the new year, in truth its something that should be obtainable, of the five home games, Watford, Coventry and Plymouth are winable, with only Wolves and Bristol City on the tough side, whilst away from home, Sheffield United and reading are tough, but points are there for the taking at Swansea, Preston & Charlton, in truth two home wins with perhaps one away and a few draws thrown in would be a satisafactory return that would keep our head above water and leave us on 23 points from 20 games, in comparison to last term that would be four points short of the 27 obtained after the first 20 games, however as we know our problems really started after Xmas last year.
In many ways its important on the pitch to start stringing together results, to be blunt if we do we might get an increase in crowds, without reaching the 17,000 break even figure on a regular basis, will only mean one thing, at least one player will be sold in the january transfer window, so a few good results could have a two fold effect.
What Saints fans dont want to go through though is the struggle they encountered last season, the indications so far are that we wont have to, of course the team will take a few beatings along the way and of course we could really do with a little bit more experience at the back, but there is only one way to get that experience and thats by playing games, in truth even the harshest of Saints critics arent saying that the bulk of our young squad isnt talented, no they are saying that they are too young, they do have a point, but the fact is that the squad hasnt crumbled as some predicted and ten games in its a little more experienced than August and a little stronger, if we can get 13 points from the next ten games then we will have moved a few more steps forward again and at this moment thats all Saints fans can ask a few small steps followed by the odd step back, as long as we keep going forward then things are slowly going to get better.
So Saints supporters can have no illusions, its a tough World but we are still alive and kicking, the next two months are crucial, lets keep behind the team.

Re: The next 2 months...
Well, Mike it's nice to know that we are not alone in that type of thinking. Just seems such a pity that nobody from the club can give us a glimmer of an insight into our current financial situation. Or is it because it is so god damn bad?
