Southampton Chairman Nicola Cortese has given Nigel Adkins £5m to spend in January and will give him the same in the summer if promoted. The Liebherr Family are desperate for promotion and want to do it ASAP, thus this vast amount has been made available to the manager.

Cortese has also written to Liverpool to inform them that their director of football is not welcome at the club after being spotted once again checking on the progress of youngster Alex Oxlade Chamberlain at The Saints' 3-1 win over Dagenham and Redbridge

All encouraging stuff and I like the fact that Cortese has told Liverpool where to get off regarding Alex Chamberlain.

One or two significant signings would be nice.......but I fear any more coming into the side could mean vital weeks lost while they gel together.

Are there a couple of players worth about £5 million together who would consider playing in League 1??

I think will be at least one wide player regardless of Chamberlain position. Difficult to say who would move to Div 1 side but didn't stop Fonte. Think will be another central midfielder as Gobern being second choice replacement not great depth, Harley at Exeter has had good reviews before our game, or possibly Stock.

I don't think need to spend big money and needs to have the right attitude to settle in with a fairly tight bunch of players
