4-0 and up to second on goal difference. Couldn't have asked for more, really, although the second half was better than the first and Exeter had some good periods of play although ultimately Saints were too strong for them. It could have been double figures if it weren't for some good keeping and some goal-line clearances.
Among all the shouting 'we're going to win the league' most of the games are away games, thanks to weather-related postponements and rescheduled fixtures and I am slightly worried about our away form. We have to hang onto that second place from now on although, preferably, we should be looking to reel in Brighton and overtake them.

Btw, Burley's been sacked by Crystal Palace.

Well looks like we could be back to the days of lots of action and goals at st marys. An excellent result, some really good flowing football, chances galore. Not quite as easy as final score suggests as Exeter in first half retained the ball very well and had their chnaces which if they had taken might have been more of a test.

Guly will grab the headlines but for me the win was all about Chaplow, he was just about everywhere, winning the ball laying off to saints players and a couple of crucnhing tackles. He never let the team settle and was always driving forward. Doesnt seem to matter who he plays alongside, they raise their game to match his effort.

Exter looked quite decent early on playing the ball around but saints could have taken lead early on, Richardson made a great run bringing the ball forward and played in great ball for Lallana who shot across goal but just went wide. Exeter then had a great chance with cross to Cureton unmarked who for once didnt bury it against us. He hit into the ground and bounced up over the bar, similar to one Connolly hit the other week and scored from!

Lambert then had a good header that had goalie beaten but went agonisingly past the post. Guly then had a shot before we took the lead. long ball to Lambert who was being climbed all over, only decent decision all day by another poor ref he played advantage as ball went to Lallana he played nice ball to Guly who with time and space from just inside the box buried the ball.

That seemed to fire Guly who had another chnace just wide, chamberlain got hacked down having beaten his full back, yet no yellow card. Exeter nearly equalised when a shot was superbly tipped over the bar by Kelvin.

Started with good tempo in 2nd half and got the all important second goal, Chamberlain released on half way line, flicked ball over defender and was away. Ran with pace, looked up and saw Guly in loads of space and squared the ball perfectly for Guly to score. He should have had his hat trick when put through, went to left then pulled ball back on right foot only for defender to clear of the line. Didnt matter as from corner Lallana got the ball wide left cut in on his right and fired into bottom corner through crowd of players.

That was pretty much end of the contest as Saints probbaly had another half a dozen clear chances to score with goalie making some saves, clearances of the line, blasted over before Barnard rounded of the scoring in last minute of extra time, spoiling my 3 0 prediction!

Now for Dagenham game on Monday and must get another win to finish off a good week. Chaplow makes such a difference and looks like Lambert getting back to form. Was unlucky with couple of decent shots and header plus some really good link play.

Davies 8 Couple of important saves
Richardson 7 Another solid game and uses his strength well
Fonte 8 another good performance
Seaborne 8 got better as game went on
Harding 7 solid game
Chamberlain 7 not the star but thoguht a good performance and second goal down to his run
Schneiderlin 7 much better all round perfomance showing some energy
Chaplow 9 just everywhere and doesnt let rest of team sit on their laurels
Lallana 8 not great first half but creates so much, just hope if he moves he waits to summer for freebie.
Guly 9 still abit of an enigma but two goals which won the game and could have been more
Lambert 8 one of his best games I have seen this season

Subs

Dickson 6 replace chamberlain and went into midfield
Barnard 7 got a goal and showed his typical desire to shoot.
Gobern 6 on towards the end and managed a decnt shot.

Agree with all of your post Matty. For me Lambert was back to his best even if he didn't score. He could have scored a few if he was more selfish as well.
