Irrelevance - why this division sucks

From Saints Web. I 100% agree with "CHAPEL END CHARLIE" who posted this as I feel the same way:

In all honesty 'Embarrassment' is just about the perfect word to describe just how I feel about seeing this beloved club of ours down in the 3rd division of English football. When a stranger asks you what team you support - that look of bewilderment (or is it pity ?) that comes over their face when you tell them "Southampton" is like a bleeding wound that will never heal with me. The truth is that this division and all the clubs in it just don't matter to the vast majority of football fans, and before we critise the shallowness of that attitude too much, if we are perfectly honest with ourselves how many of us really gave a toss about the lower leagues when we were back in the EPL ?

I know plenty of Saints fans quite enjoy us being in the lower divisions because this means they can see us win more games. All I can say is 'good luck to them' but I for one will never settle for seeing this club reduced to the state of near irrelevance it is in now.

You get what you deserve in life they say - the thing is that I've never been able to quite figure out what the average Saints fan has done to deserve the last 5 years of utter sh1t we've all had to endure.

I agree with him because I am also sick of seeing us reduced to near irrelevance. I was watching South Today this evening and we were near last and we always are. Last week the only club below us in the running order was Aldershot and that was only because they're in an even crappier division than we are. Not only that I am sick of the Bournemouth love-in on local tv and radio, it shows how far we have fallen.
That's one reason we must go up this season, that and the fact that, if we don't then the better players will leave and we could be stuck here for a long time to come.

Problem is there is no magic wand and as much as the fans might want to be back in Championship then premiership we need the hunger in the players. Don't have a problem with Adkins as convinced he can build a team but fact is this isnt his team and while the players on paper are good enough are they willing to fight for the cause. OK for fighting at the weekend after a few beers but to many players seem comfortable playing in good stadium and on a good salary without having to break into to much of a sweat.

On the basis of what goes round comes round we should be in for some good times very shortly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, there isn't. It's just frustrating. I hope you're right and good times aren't too far away.
