It could be one of the most audacious bids of the summer - if it's true - Southampton are reported to be interested in taking Benjani to St Mary's. It would be quite a step down for the former Manchester City striker, but stranger things have happened... Haven't they?
•The 31-year-old Zimbabwe international is looking for a club after being released by Manchester City, and is understood to have had a trail with a J-League club recently. However, Southampton are clearly ambitious, and bringing a player with extensive top-flight experience would underline their ambition, however, whether they would be able to get anywhere near the wages he would expect is another matter. And he did play for Portsmouth!

I'd file that under 'Outlandish rumours, not a chance', if I were you. It'd be nice, but it's just another wild rumour that is no way going to happen.
