INIGO CALDERON
Found this on Sky website:
Brighton defender Inigo Calderon has agreed to join League One rivals Southampton next season.
Seagulls boss Gus Poyet wanted to keep the Spanish full-back, who arrived as a free agent in January, but he has turned down the offer of a new contract.
Calderon was keeping his options open and Poyet insists Brighton cannot compete financially with their south coast rivals' offer.
Disappointed
"We are very disappointed because everything was agreed," said Poyet.
"He waited for a possible offer and we can't compete with it. He won't be our player and I am disappointed with him and his agent.
"I thank him for his services but we took a big risk because he's injured. I am disappointed because he chose to wait and not sign for us."

We desperately need a RB so could be a good signing, actually thought the Southend RB yesterday was better than ours!

Re: INIGO CALDERON
Echo today....
SAINTS are facing competition from rival clubs for the signature of Spanish right-back Inigo Calderon.
The former Alaves captain’s contract with Brighton is set to expire, with Saints interested in bringing him to St Mary’s on a free transfer. However, a source told the Daily Echo that there are a number of other clubs that have already enquired about him, giving the Spaniard a number of potential options this summer.
Calderon is understood to have returned to his homeland last week to spend some time with his family while things develop.
He had been offered a new deal by the Seagulls, but it was withdrawn after he failed to sign it before a deadline imposed by the club expired.
Brighton boss Gus Poyet revealed the 28-year-old had stalled on putting pen to paper as he was waiting for an offer from Saints.
Calderon said he had agreed terms with the Seagulls, but wanted to wait to see what was on offer further along the south coast.
“It’s complicated,” he said. “I never said no to Brighton.
“I agreed with the conditions of the contract, but I wanted to wait to meet with Southampton and they understood that.
“They told me about the deadline in the last week and I thought I would have the Southampton proposal by then.
“The problem was I couldn’t have a meeting with them in time so I asked for another week.
“They said the deadline is the deadline.”

Re: INIGO CALDERON
Be surprised if he gets a better offer in terms of everything on offer, stadium, squad, wages etc and sure AP wont hang around if he wants to start an auction

Re: INIGO CALDERON
We can get better than him. From what I have read he and/or his agent have changed their minds and changed them back again so we are better off without. Besides, he is carrying a hip injury and has been for a while, we do not want crocked players.

Re: INIGO CALDERON
I am left wondering whether he did have a medical but it wasn't conclusive . Either that or he wasn't sure about the medical and he kept us at bay long enough to get Brighton to change their mind. He was voted best player at the club sice he joined in January.
Re: INIGO CALDERON
but could mean a few wasted weeks if AP thought he was a given and RB is for me the key position we must fill.
still wouldn't expect any comment from saints web site apart for exciting news about turf and fact that someday soon will show you the new kit. You would almost think Rupert was CE!!
