Schneiderlin ban reduced on appeal

Morgan Schneiderlin's three-match ban has been reduced on appeal, according to the Echo. I didn't think Saints were going to bother, as there was the danger of the ban being extended for a 'frivolous' appeal, so this is a pleasant surprise especially as, having now served the ban (reduced to one match), he can play tomorrow.

I am sure I read that Saints were not going to appeal because of the risk of the ban being extended. I wonder whether word reached the club by the 'back door' that an appeal would succeed which made them change their mind.
