Re: Northampton in the Cup
We should have wrapped this up ages ago, but in typical Saints fashion we are making hard work of it.

Re: Northampton in the Cup
Oh for f(censored!)'s sake we concede a penalty. This is pathetic. Our defending is absolutely dreadful.
3-2.
3-2.

Re: Northampton in the Cup
Final whistle goes. Through to the 3rd round, but if we get a big team we are going to HAVE to tighten up at the back or we WILL be thrashed out of sight.

Re: Northampton in the Cup
I actually think we play better against the big teams or teams with some form. So though we would likely get beat I don't think it would be a slaughter.
Re: Northampton in the Cup
Good result but not great performance. Lallana, Lambert and Jaidi top players, again, Waigo and Scheiderlin poor with little effort by either though having slated waigo at game he pops up and gets the goal then crosses for second. At 3 up we should have closed out the game but sat deeper and deeper but midfield were second best. If playing 4 5 1 you would think we would swamp the midfield but I'm afraid Waigo doesnt help out defensively, despite Murty trying to get him back. Scheiderlin again very ineffective so means we only have 3 midfield players.
Bart played in goal, not exactly inspiring but needs to get use to back four, could have come out for the ball a few times but not confident yet. Perry played at CB and know a few on here wanted him to play but not a good game beaten to most balls. At least if in the air Jaidi was there, very dominant game. Murty and Harding did well at FB.
Really disappointed that AP failed to make tactical subs earlier, team got complacent at 3 up and so did he. Crying out to take off Waigo or Schneiderlin, both preferably but left right to end again.
We started slowly, just like Orient, and Northampton hit the post in first 5 min and had better chances in 1st half. At 40 mins I said happy to go in goaless at half time then good work by Lambert and Waigo makes it 1 0 us then couple of mins later Waigo down right, first decent cross and Lallana makes 2 0. Getting third in second half a good side would have closed the game down but as I said earleir players seem to think they had won it. Hope a Premiership side at home next round. Not sure if Waigo has what it takes at this level, great first touch an control but doesnt want to work.
Bart 6 bit hesitant
Murty 7 solid display and brings much needed experience
Jaidi 8 Dominant in air
Perry 5 rusty and showed hadnt played much
Harding 7 agains solid if not spectacular plu as on left didnt see much of him.
Lallana 8 again great work rate plus goal
Hammond 7 Industrious and in box for third goal
Schneiderlin 5 Dont know what AP see in him but I would ship out in Jan,
Wotton 7 a few mis placed passes as normal but couldnt fault his work rate
Waigo 6 would have been 5 but for goal
Lambert 8 worked his socks off holding up ball and distribution top class
Subs little point as not on long enough.
Not a great atmosphere and Saints had 1 end (800) plus 1 side (1200) so the singers were spaced apart. Obvioulsy Northampton not playing well as they didnt have good support, suspect crowd would have been around 4000 with 2000 saints.
Good news no rain so stayed dry!!
