GILLINGHAM POST MATCH REACTION
So, what about that then? A convincing performance (after the first half hour), 4 goals scored from open play, no more points deficit, positive goal difference...I need a lie down!
After Tuesday's kick in the proverbials it was good to see (ok, I listened on Solent, so hear) the team respond positively and get a result. Also, it was even better that, although the team did the usual of score first then concede, this time they didn't let it get to them and got more confident and scored more goals.
It seems like the team are coming together at last and I hope that this is the beginning of a good run and better times. It sounded like Waigo, Lallana and Lambert, as well as scoring the goals, played well overall and Waigo sounds dangerous. It was about time we thumped someone and I hope it's the first of many thumpings we give out.
I am planning to be there on Tuesday for the JPT game, so I hope I can get to see the current team in action for the first time since pre-season.
Funny old game 1: Bristol Rovers were thumped 5-1 at Norwich. Typical.
Funny old game 2: After the hype, the Sk8s get into positive points on the same day we do. Sod's law in action.

Sounds very much as if he is a 'work in progress' then. Once he gets those aspects of his game sorted he will be very dangerous.

Re: GILLINGHAM POST MATCH REACTION
After 30 minutes didnt expect a 4 - 1 win but eventually got playing as a team. Opening goal by Lambert was excellent, great finish and yet again thought he had a great game. Lallana was again a threat and two goals the icing on the cake.
Think we will have to wait a couple of months to see if Waigo really will deliver. Out wide he looks lost at time, his crossing is pretty abysmal most of the time which suggest he is not a winger. Does add a threat as totally unpredictable but does mean the rest of midfield can easily get overrun. Not sure it was his goal have to see on telly, where we were in Northam looked like an own goal. Mellis didnt do much for me again and think against better sides our midfield will struggle, playing both Mellis and Waigo puts a lot of pressure on other two midfield players. Hammond put in a lot of work and Wotton did the simple things. Gillet came on towards the end but played the lallana role and was abit out of it but glad to see in the squad. Jaidi did well in the air today. James played okay in the second half, first 30 minutes looked dodgy but benefited as Saints took control.
Now to take this forward. Still 9 points to get out of bottom 4 so really do need to string 3 or 4 wins together to get the momentum and hope Pardew gets a loan striker in to increase the competition up front. Looks clear that AP doesnt really want to play Saganoski so another striker to partner Lambert and we could really start motoring.
Be interesting to see team against Torquay, AP says will field a strong team but for me chance for Perry. Gillet, Paterson, Saga to at least start and rest some as Southend is Friday night.

Re: GILLINGHAM POST MATCH REACTION
Couldn't ber there for this well deserved victory, but great to get all four goals from open play. Hopefully we can now string a run of wins together and start looking and moving upwards for the remainder of the season :-)

Re: GILLINGHAM POST MATCH REACTION
I was just thinking that if we had the players we had yesterday were our team last season then surely we would have done better. Lambert showed how to play the lone striker as DMG could never do. Lallana played in the hole off Lambert and Mellis and Waigo tried to keep the width. Hammond and Wotton played as the holding midfielders and got the ball to the right areas. Harding is surely a better left back than Skacel, and Trotman and Jaidi are the kind of no nonsense defenders we needed most of last year. It just goes to show that the 4-2-3-1 (or 4-2-1-2-1) is actually a great formation if the players knows how to play it.
