STERN JOHN GOING TO PALACE?
"CRYSTAL Palace are closing in on a double capture - Southampton striker Stern John and Derby defender Claude Davis.
The South London Press understands that Trindad & Tobago international John, 32, has been offered a deal by the Eagles.
The former Nottingham Forest and Birmingham forward is still wanted by Southampton, who he has been training with over the summer, but he is keen to work with Palace boss Neil Warnock.
And John is set to be joined in SE25 by Claude Davis, who spent time on loan with the Eagles last season.
Derby have told the big Jamaican defender he has no future at Pride Park and are looking to terminate the final two years of his contract."

Not sure what to think about that. Actually would prefer to keep Rasiak. Probably going to lose both, and Saga.

SJ going to Palace
Will be disappointing, no doubt his Agent will make more money with a deal with Palace but I suspect he will end up on the subs bench more often than not if he joins them

Re: STERN JOHN GOING TO PALACE?
I must admit to being a littlr confused by all this toing and frowing of our players. I expected Stern to stay once he had been offered a contract. He must have known that CP were coming in for him or I think he would have been our man.
Rasiak has shown a desire that was badly missing last season and he does know where the goal is. If they go we will really be short of options. AP will have to start moving some players in very soon or we will be as poorly placed as we were last season as the season commences.

Re: STERN JOHN GOING TO PALACE?
Good point, Matty.
I doubt AP will be letting anybody go until he has lined up a replacement.
Starting -10 points is bad enough, without starting poorly too, just because players were allowed to leave before time.

SJ to palace
I note that Palace seem to have a number of bids in for strikers plus have kept hold of Lee who Norwich wanted. Warnock obvioulsy keeping all his options open so maybe not a done deal yet. Sure AP will be working hard at keeping SJ if he can but we are in Div 1 so not easy if Championship clubs make offers to players out of contract.
Sure AP is doing his best but looks like a real "merry go round" this year with most clubs chasing the freebies! Would like to see us get AP his assistants sorted so he can focus on either the training ground or players, doing both will be killing him. As a long suffering saints fan optimistic will come good, take over seemed to take forever but turned out right in the end with a buyer we can all respect. Just need to be patient, something I'm not very good at!

Re: STERN JOHN GOING TO PALACE?
Pinnacle have a lot to answer to with all the delays they caused. We would surely be ready and raring to go by now if the delay hadn't been there. We all seem to agree that we need the strikers to stay. Even if we only kept one we would at least have one experienced striker. Rasiak would be my first choice with John next. With luck Saga will soon be on his way. He just doesn't seem intersted when he plays. For a player looking to move he would be better showing some form I would have thought.

Re: STERN JOHN GOING TO PALACE?
This is good news, Mike.
I really thought we were about to lose all three ( John, Saga and Rasiak ) in one week.

Yes. Official word is that Stern John has now declined a generous offer, and has an eye on a move to a Championship club.

I must admit that I am getting a little concerned by all the negative news coming from our club at the moment. Players keep leaving and we don't appear to be able to replace them. The clock is ticking actions if this continues.nd Millwall loom ahead. I may have to change my predi

Oh well, if John doesn't want to be here he can bugger off. We're running out of time. I hope AP has some other irons in the fire.

I wish that Pardew didn't find it necessary to "out" Stern's two-facedness. Fans will read between the lines without it being spelled out, and you never know who you will want as a friend in the future.

Re: STERN JOHN GOING TO PALACE?
I think it was probably more out of frustration with SJ. If he had been up front and said he was going then it would have rasied the striker crisis with the "board". If they thought they had SJ and Patterson to start the season they might have thought had more time to get sorted. Especially as London local press said it was happening on the Tuesday so SJ had clealry been in conatcat with them before!
Still honesty and loyalty from players, what was he expecting!!??

Re: STERN JOHN GOING TO PALACE?
Doesn't really matter now that SJ has added to our woes. Yet another likely to happen with Rasiak on his way to swansea probably. Maybe with Saganowski. Paterson has promise but he needs somebody to help him out. Having seen the team that AP turned out today I am left wondering just how much he has learned about our squad so far in his short tenure as boss.
Re: STERN JOHN GOING TO PALACE?
I think he learnt some important issues form the last couple of friendlies and he wanted to look at some options against QPR. Lancashire and Gobern are not ready for the first team and if OL is reserve CB then he needs another. Will be worried that Thomas will be play one miss one all season with his fitness/injuries. Think he will also have seen James has promise but is better in midfield than Right back so get Murty signed. He probably already knew Raziak and Saga are both lazy and will do what suits them, not much he can do and sure he is desperate to get a striker in as wouldnt surpise me if both are gone by Millwall.
Still there are 46 games this season and while getting off to a flyer would have been needed for play offs I'll take top half this season as AP sorts out the basics.
May have to be end of August before we see the squad AP wants but confident he will get it sorted.

Re: STERN JOHN GOING TO PALACE?
I am lovin the full-backs and wide midfielders.
I believe we need 6 players down the core with experience.
2 Central Defenders, 2 Central Midfielders and 2 Strikers ( preferably with pace )
I think Perry is the only Central Defender we have. Gillet and Schneiderlin are good back-up players for a 'Title' winning side. And there isn't enough 'desire and know-how combined' up front.
And I mean players that look capable of playing in a team wanting to 'win' a league title. Not just players because they are available.
Players are generally made available when they are not needed ( for whatever reason ). If they were worth much, I think they would have moved them on for a fee before their contract ended. If they couldn't do that - why?
I suspect it is usually because they are near the 30 year old mark, recovering from a series of injuries, or something similar.
A gamble, in short. We don't need that kind of player.
We need to BUY.

Re: STERN JOHN GOING TO PALACE?
I think after last season's fiasco re loan players which is well documented we all agree that players are needed that will be staying for the big push. loan players are ok as an extra source of backup but we need the players in to make our team reliably strong. Loanies should only ever be a back up.
Re: STERN JOHN GOING TO PALACE?
Maybe it is Saints' fault they lost Stern John....
Stern John hits back at Saints boss Pardew
Wednesday, 05 August 2009
By Richard Cawley
CRYSTAL Palace new boy Stern John has hit back at Alan Pardew - after the Southampton boss slammed him for not signing a new deal with the League One outfit.
The 32-year-old striker recently penned a 12-month contract with the Eagles, despite continuing to train with the South Coast side over the summer.
But John says that if the Saints wanted to keep him they shouldn't have dragged their heels over putting a deal in front of him.
John said: “He [Pardew] knows the truth and I know the truth. They talk about players being loyal to clubs but I was there for two seasons and after the first one - where I really kept them up - they told me they weren’t going to play me at all.
“I told them I wanted to stay but they never sorted out a deal properly and when I came and spoke to the manager at Palace he changed my mind about everything. I still have a lot to give and I wanted to play at the highest level.”
