SHEARER for Saints? Or KEEGAN???
According to the Sunday People, Newcastle are looking to appoint a more experienced manager making Shearer number 2. It also says saints are watching the situation, with all that implies.
I reckon this is newspaper talk. With both Newcastle and Saints groing through sales at the moment, I fail to see any movement on the management front until those sales are done and dusted.
And besides, I think we need an experienced manager right now.

Re: SHEARER for Saints? Or KEEGAN???
I agree with you there Alf. It is important that we get this right. The likes of tisdale could do a good job for us as he was doing a fantastic job at Bath before he moved on to exeter. At Exeter he has also done well winning his team two promotions. His sides try to play attacking football and like to score. Not like our current crop. There are two or three young managers who have done well so far and any one of them would possibly be acceptable. The most important aspect apart from man management is the fact we need to spend wisely in the transfer market. So the manager needs to know the type of player needed for our level and promotion.
Re: SHEARER for Saints? Or KEEGAN???
Shearer and Newcastle alike would only be waiting for him to gain some experience and a degree of success and he would be off! - I'd rather that Saints were not used as a managerial training vehicle for another club!
I would really like Strachan back but I know thats 'pie in the sky'

Re: SHEARER for Saints? Or KEEGAN???
I wouldn't want Shearer today or even next year. He has no experience and always came across as a single minded sort of person who suffered no fools gladly.
Re: SHEARER for Saints? Or KEEGAN???
He didn't do very well for his hometown team, IMHO I think he would be better doing what Paul Ince done and start with a Div 2 club to see if he can cut the mustard. I'm sure you'll pick up the right man for the Job.
PS did you know New*****e had advertised their club for sale on the internet???? What a laughing stock they are

Must admit I had a good chuckle when I saw that. Bet you couldn't believe your eyes when you saw it in print.

In all honesty this has to be the best time ever to be a Sunderland supporter. Mike Ashley has been a total shambles for that once great club. (that was said through gritted teeth). I'm sure he must be a Mackem in disguise

I saw a piece on the BBC website where some Sunderland supporters erected a road sign 'Sid James Park'. While I am not sorry to see them go down, purely because they were no better than Saints yet the media bigged them up all the time - never did get that - I feel a bit sorry for the fans, because our own relegation from the Premiership (not to mention our relegation this season) is an all-too-painful memory and the way the skates lapped it up and stuck it to us was very similar. We were spared amusing road signs though!
Personally I can see Newcastle going the same way as Saints, they are another ex-Prem disaster-in-progress.

They've got so many high wage earners on long contracts and its gonna be difficult to sell them on. The club really are in trouble. A lot of my Mag friends have given up on them.

Re: SHEARER for Saints? Or KEEGAN???
When a club is in your blood you do not give up on them. I would imagine Mike Ashley thought he would be able to lift the club higher when taking over. It takes just one ridiculous signing as a manager to upset the apple cart.
Re: SHEARER for Saints? Or KEEGAN???
They'll still support the club. I suppose I used the term 'give up' loosely. They just wont be buying season tickets etc until the club is in a more stable condition. If we had gone down I'd have still got my season ticket, in fact the 1st payment had came out before we knew we were safe.

That is a true supporter. Good or bad makes no difference apart from the pleasure level. Your club is just that, your club. We are saddened by our fall but we still love and support our club.
Re: SHEARER for Saints? Or KEEGAN???
Today on the Echo website....
IS Saints legend Kevin Keegan about to make a sensational return to the club?
Exclusive pictures printed in today’s Daily Echo appear to show the former England and Newcastle boss meeting Matthew Le Tissier and former chairman Leon Crouch.
There is no hint as to whether ex-Saints striker Keegan would return as manager or director of football.
He may even have been just enjoying a friendly chat with Crouch and Le Tissier, who is a prospective board member should the Pinnacle group take over the club.

It is also being reprted on Sky:
The consortium in talks to takeover Southampton has held discussions with Kevin Keegan.
Pinnacle Consortium struck an exclusivity deal with The Saints' administrators late last month, which lasted for 21 days.
Matt Le Tissier is a figurehead for Pinnacle, who are already looking at potential new managers.
And Sky Sports sources have confirmed that they have approached Keegan with a view to making a return to the South Coast club.

Oooh, exciting times!
If this happens, then it might make the painful times recently almost worth it. Almost.

Re: SHEARER for Saints? Or KEEGAN???
If this is not just media speculation, it is interesting. KK has a good record for getting clubs promoted but not so good for hanging around when things keep going pearshaped.
What it does do is put the Saints back on the map. If true it shows that the buyer/s have to possess some cash.

Re: SHEARER for Saints? Or KEEGAN???
This rumour has snowballed in the last 24 hours. It's all over the other media as well as the net, but whether it has a lot of truth in it or is just an internet rumour that has got completely out of hand we'll find out in due course (tomorrow? I hope this Pinnacle thing is wrapped up tomorrow and we get announcements and aren't left to die of anticipation all weekend!).
