Rasiak fee wrangle for Hornets
Tue 12 May, 12:39 PM
Watford's hopes of signing striker Grzegorz Rasiak have received a blow after Southampton refused to lower the asking price for the Poland international.
Rasiak spent the season on loan at Vicarage Road and was a success, but after Saints were relegated to League One, Watford hoped to sign him for a nominal fee.
But despite the club's parent company being in administration the Saints are holding out for a hefty fee.
Manager Mark Wotte said: "If the players can`t find a club that are willing to pay the right amount of money for them then they should report back on June 15 with everybody else.
"Grzegorz has spoken with Watford and they have made an offer to him to extend his loan, but there are some financial issues with that."

The vultures are indeed cicling, but is the club in any position to haggle over price? Especially as these buyer negotiations are proving tortuous in the extreme.

Re: Rasiak fee wrangle for Hornets
If we sell cheaply to stay alive only to die a couple of weeks later is it worth the bother? I can see where the club is coming from and hope that we can get a fair price. If we fold anyway the player will be free to move anywhere and could get an offer from someone else. That would serve watford right in my book.

According to Team Talk, they are qoting the Mirror as saying that Sheffield Wednesday will be 'rading' Southampton for Rasiak.

Excuse my typos. According to The Star, Rasiak will go to Wednesday for £300,000.

Re: Rasiak fee wrangle for Hornets
Sky News report: Watford boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that the Hornets cannot afford to sign Southampton striker Gregorz Rasiak on a permanent deal.
Despite offering to take a 15 per cent cut in his wages, Rasiak's personal terms still price him out of the Hornets' range. A move to Watford is now looking very unlikely.
Rodgers told the Watford Observer: "I think it is a shame because his contribution has been good for us, but it is likely to be his last big contract so he needs to maximise it for his family and we do not have the finances to compete."

How far have we fallen, to be 'raided' by the likes of Sheffield Wednesday. Sheffield Wednesday FFS. Oh dear, oh dear...

Re: Rasiak fee wrangle for Hornets
We may soon be entering the light at the end of this dark and very long tunnel. Both Mark Fry and Tony Lynam sound confident the deal for our club will be done in the near future.
Whilst I don't expect to much from this coming season it will be nice to see us actually win some games.

Re: Rasiak fee wrangle for Hornets
According to Yahoo Eurosport Rasiak is back with Saints and undergoing a series of fitness tests and trials.
However, Marek Saganowski was given extra time off due to his involvement with the Polish national team this month.

Re: Rasiak fee wrangle for Hornets
I just hope that Rasiak's wages won't be a problem. Even if we get a rich new owner Prem wages will be ridiculous in L1. If only he'd come back last season.
Get some capable players in and maybe, just maybe we'll wipe out that damned deficit in the first few games and go on from there...

Re: Rasiak fee wrangle for Hornets
That is the problem we face at this moment in time. We have no money and no owner. Tomorrow it could all change, or weds or thursday. But until then we are in limbo.
Myself, given the choice, I would let him go for a nominal fee. We would be rid of a high wage earner who doesn't want to be here and that would give us a little bit of scope with other players contracts.Players like Kelvin.

Re: Rasiak fee wrangle for Hornets
I would be delighted to have Rasiak. He would probably score 30 goals even if he wasn't trying.

Re: Rasiak fee wrangle for Hornets
Only if he wanted to play for us. An unhappy player just won't do it for you.
Re: Rasiak fee wrangle for Hornets
Fair enough. The problem is no clubs are willing to match his reported 15k a week. How the **** did we end up paying someone that much in the Championship (and on a 4 year contract). It's just beyond belief and something only our old friend drunken George would have been capable of.
