MANAGER TURNOVER AT ST MARY'S

Post  SaintMike on Sun 15 Jun 2014, 10:42 am

Taken from a comment on Ugly Inside....

"The trouble is that if he does well, whichever of the "big" clubs has a disappointing season and ditches its manager will come straight after him and next summer we'll be in exactly the same situation as now. When a provincial club punches above its weight, this is what happens."

I think this risk has to be taken if Saints are to progress. Having a big-name manager must surely make it easier to attract quality players.......plus, if he moves on it should become easier to get another top manager to replace him. And the longer this goes on, we should, inch by inch, be edging closer to the top teams.

well hobsons choice. Sign Bruce or McClaren and no one will want to take them from us, go for an up and coming manager and if they are successful then bound to be likely to move on. At least we know at the outset so can keep watching new managers and perhaps next time not have to take so long to appoint. Plus it beats sacking managers which is the other option, looks like most managers have a 3 year shelf life either head hunted or get the sack.
