Team for Hearts match on Saturday? Empty Team for Hearts match on Saturday?

Post  SaintJackoInHurworth Wed 22 Jul 2009, 12:07 am

Who does anyone think will be in the squad on Saturday for our match against Hearts? How do you think Pardew is going to play that one? Do you think he will experiment with lots of changes and different combinations, etc.? Or do you think he will be fielding the best side he can to build up confidence with the season only a couple of weeks away?

I think he will at least be beginning to draw together some semblace of what he sees as his best side - for at least one half of the match. Of course, with some players this may be dependant upon their fitness.

Assuming all of the following are deemed sufficiently fit I guess our better players would be the following:

Keepers: Davis & Bialkowski

Defence: Harding, Murty (assuming he is signed!), Thomas, Perry, Mills, ...A.Signing

Midfield: Schneiderlin, Wotton, Gillett, Gobern, Holmes, Lallana, James (?), ...A.N.Other

Forwards: John, Rasiak, Patterson, ...R.Newstriker

I have ommitted Lancashire, Saga, Molyneux, Poke, Thomson, Pulis and others as they are by all accounts not good enough. This is what I have read and it could be that others disagree, but there we have it!

I have ommitted White and McLaggon as I think they are both injured.

Hopefully that covers everyone, but if there is someone who should be in there but which I have not mentioned then please let me know! (Yes, I know there's the academy players that played against Salisbury tonight, but I'm not counting them!)

What do you think?

Davis is an absolute certainty.
Murty if fit will probably get a start as he looked more unfit than the rest against Ajax.
Perry is another cert in my team.
Thomas did well in first half and needs more playtime.
Harding should start but he or Mills will probably be midfield.
James would start in my team
Gillett is our main tackler and Alan Ball style player. Wish he was as good.
Schneiderlin has to be given the chance to establish himself as he has a bit of class and AP will draw it out I am sure.
Mills would again be a banker as he looks much better than lasr season.
Stern John will possibly start though he doesn't convince me
Paterson should be given a chance as he seems more physical than Saga or Rasiak.

Subs
Bart if he hasn't gone out on loan
Lallana as he has some skill but needs to learn how to use it
Gobern who showed promise last season on a few occasions
Holmes if fit as he could be a usefull sub
saga until we have signed a new player
We will probably have a coupl of players added to that list as we tend to give lots of players a game. I personally would like to see the game played under league rules with a max of 3 subs.

I am hoping that AP has his eyes on a couple of loanies that we can use while sorting out our squad. Plus his knowledge of the players out of contract could also bring us a couple of cheap one or two season signings. If we can forge a team that is able to cope with this league without spending too much we will be better able to find the players in January to push on. I would love to see Rickie Lambert here but it may be too late now for us to get him.
