The loss of Luke Shaw will be a blow for Utd, thought he has looked like the old Luke Shaw and I had thought we may have played Yoshida at RB to try and stop him as stronger than Soares but may not need to do that now.

Have not been over impressed by Utd so far despite the amount of money they have spent but De Dea back in goal makes them stronger. I am going with Pete and thinking a 1 - 1 draw. Shame that Bertrand is not fit enough yet as we need to attack their flanks. Mane to start and score.

MAN UNITED AT ST MARY'S Empty Re: MAN UNITED AT ST MARY'S

Sorry for the delay, just really busy work and off to Rome on wed so booking last minute trips last night!

Well a bad result against a very average Manure and for me primarily Koeman has to take responsibility. As I said in my original e mail if Shaw had played by all means look at Yoshida but with no Shaw a very negative approach to a home game we should have won. Romeu and Wanyama in midfield gave us a solid middle and Ward Prowse started on right side. First 20 minutes we looked good, moved the ball around winning the battles in the middle and putting in some good crosses. Took the lead following a good cross from the right from Ward Prowse, Mane shot was well saved by de Gea and Pelle picked up the rebound and shot into far corner. Had the chance to make 2 nil a few minutes later when Pelle made some space and clear shot on goal but instead of shooting across De Gea tried to beat at the near post but hit the post, if that had gone in Manure were there for the taking. Ward Prowse had a shot but straight at De Gea but on target then claims for a penalty but other end of pitch so hard to see. Then against the run of play an equaliser gifted by Clattenberg and Company, Mata picked the ball up in a clear offside position, we could all see from the Northam, lays back to Martial who duly scored. Another typical Clattenberg performance, Manure players allowed to get away with anything, Mata tackle from behind, no intent to play ball, but we have ball on halfway line, Clattenberg whistles stopping our advantage but no booking. Schneiderlin committed SEVEN fouls yet no booking , first foul by saints player and a booking.

It is beyond a joke and Rooney shows so much dissent yet all Clattenberg did was arm around his "England mate" and let him off, our referees command no respect and do not deserve any, the likes of Clattenberg want to be the players mate and that is the problem. Unfortunately I do not see getting any better as the refrees are a closed shop, refuse to recognise their deficiencies and top clubs more than happy as works in their favour.

Second half started as a disaster, not the goal but Koeman blundering and putting on Martina for Targett who got injured end of first half. We had Cedric on the bench, play him at RB his natural position and should have moved Yoshida to LB where he has played before. Martina is probably one of the worst players I have seen at saints in recent years, he runs around but has no positional sense, rarely actually tackles and hopeless going forward. If Koeman genuinely thinks that we have no academy players better than Martina we either have a terrible Academy now or a manager who is not willing to give youngsters a chance.

Yoshida made a terrible back pass for their second goal, just like Fonte last year in same position and the team fell apart. Another odd substitution when he took of Romeu and brought on Davis and also moved Ward Prowse into the centre and he then became totally ineffective. No character shown as they allowed Manure to dominate and 3rd goal was inevitable, more poor defending and also the area where Romeu had been giving protection. Pelle was unlucky at 2 1 down with a powerful header well saved by de Gea and then brought us back into the game with a good header from cross from Mane

Really to little to late, and a day that had me worried for the first time about Koeman and his negative approach. Some players seem to have no chance of a game Reed, Juanni yet Tadic who had an okay first half but was total garbage second half seems a shoe in week in week out. His lack of heart passion means we are playing with 10 men for large parts of the game and when playing the top sides who splash £40m on reserves you need plenty of bottle and passion to beat them.

Stekelenberg 6 while not at fault for goals he doesn't inspire and can see what Forster brought to the team with his presence.
Yoshida 5 looked okay first half but makes to many mistakes to be first choice, a good substitute
Fonte 6 not a great game but his charge with ball helped first goal, got caught on his left foot to many times when bringing the ball away
VvD 6 a much tougher game form him to say but he still looked the best defender
Targett 6 a decent first half before getting injured
Romeu 6 solid in the middle and surprised he was subbed
Wanyama 7 got through a lot of work again we will miss him when he goes next summer big time
Ward Prowse 6 had an excellent first half out wide and some decent crosses then looked lost when moved into the middle
Tadic 5 lucky a 5 as a decent first half, second half went missing as he so often does.
Mane 6 tried hard but doesn't seem to as much of a goal threat this season, out to wide and should be played closed to Pelle
Pelle 7 two goals hit the post and unlucky with another header, yes he gets caught offside and not the most mobile but what more can he do, give him the service and he will score.

Subs

Martina 4 why did we buy him????
Davis 5 little impact
Long 5 again didn't do much when he came on

Thank you for another very enjoyable report, Matty.

I said to "Saint_Bruvva" ;-) that Yoshida's back-pass was almost a carbon copy of Fonte's last season.
