A STUPID IDEA.....

On an Echo thread about the goalscoring problem I posted this comment....

"I am going to make what is probably a completely stupid suggestion. The Saints system is built around a big striker, Pelle, who unfortunately has lost his confidence and, with Gallagher injured, there is no recognised striker ready to fill the spot.
I would honestly like to see Fonte moved to that position for a game or two, he has scored occasionally from defence and would be likely to have a much better scoring ratio as a striker. Admittedly it would probably be better to wait to try this when Toby is back to slot into the defence.
Well I warned you it was a stupid idea....."


I was quite relieved to see this response.....

"That is not a stupid idea. Fonte is better at winning aerial contests than Pelle and he wouldn't be bullied and overpowered the way Pelle is. There was a recent game where he pushed forward towards the end and he caused havoc. Either the Spammers or Swansea. I suggested this myself a few weeks back but I don't think it's too likely to happen."

I would rather let Yoshida go forward more as Fonte has been a rock at the back but need not do that if our midfield players took the responsibility and got closer to Pelle and Pelle was told get in the box more. Davis has sat far to back, JWP seems scared of the penalty box unless hitting in a free kick. Against Liverpool only Wanyama showed any attacking threat when he started to run at players but even he seemed reluctant to shoot
