Punished for progress? Empty Punished for progress?

This is a good article Southampton: Punished for progress?

It starts: No situation better exemplifies the issue within English football than the one transpiring at Southampton at the moment. In this age of big broadcasting contracts, top-fours, and Champions League qualification above everything else, it would be easy to ignore the glass-ceiling which now exists between the Premier League’s aristocracy and its general population.

Teams with big existing fan bases and extravagant financial resources prosper, and those who attempt a more organic style of progress are really just swimming against the tide.

And finishes

It’s all just starting to feel so futile.

Indeed.

you wonder if there is any point if you can never break into the top 4 without a mega rich nut case. The FFP rules are now showing to be a joke as clubs still get around them. Plus strange isn't it that our 3 players who made into England squad, JRod probably as well if he hadn't got injured have all had their heads turned since being in the England squad.

Aside from Shaw who I think will be the top left back for years will be interesting to see how their careers fare if they leave us, RL better buy some thick cushions for the time he will be sat on the bench.i

You know what? I think that Mark Clattenburg was right. If, and that's a big IF, Lallana has got his head turned and now thinks he can do better than little old SFC after a good PL season then he's got too big for his boots.
