MANCHESTER UNITED AT ST MARY'S

Post  SaintMike on Tue 06 May 2014, 7:30 pm

Can Saints finish the season with a win?

I see Sky are televising 3 games live so it is possible Saints may be shown. I hope Sky will announce their plans in advance as I am due to be at work and the Sky+ box only allows for 2 programmes to be recorded at a time so I could record the wrong matches!

An interesting thought for team selection....... http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/southampton/news/34976/?

Don't think will be on tv, bound to be City and Liverpool and suspect will include Chelsea, Arsenal or Spurs. Man U have lost the TV magic at the moment but they might want have on showing them fail to qualify for Europe. Have to laugh at sky who messed last weeks fixtures around and now no real tension on last day, just don't see City losing to Fat Sams mob

don't think any point in playing Sharp, on that basis of saying thanks we would have Kelvin in goal, Fox back at LB, Hoovield at CH, Jono Quick on the wing and Guly and Sharp up front. If that was team will stay down the pub!

Chance for Gallagher to get some more match time, great for his confidence if he scores against Utd and no reason why he might not with their defence and possibly another youngster. Expect Adam to play an hour and off, Rickie maybe 45 minutes and wonder if Harrison Reed will come on before Ward Prowse and get more than just 5 minutes at the end. Also would have Target on bench and maybe give him last 15 minutes, we could sub our 3 England players destined for Brazil, Rickie, Adam and Luke! Would allow some real micky taking of the once great Man U Very Happy

Well a draw final result for a very successful season, should have had the game wrapped up in first half when we totally dominated but lost impetus second half and once lallana went off we lost most of our cutting edge. Only down side was the inept, biased and incompetent Mike Dean who ruined what would have been a win for saints by being the 12th man for Utd he really is a horrible little man who should be investigated as I cannot believe he can be that inept.

Saints were buzzing at start and had possession and bossed the midfield, Wanyama was getting in loads of tackles and had a long range shot which lacked power, a common theme today and for the season was saints lack of willingness to shoot when first chance appears. lallana wiggled his way into the box and tried to flick the ball past Vidic and looked like hit his hand but the first of numerous decision that Dean gave to Utd. Wanyama then tried a shot from edge of box with Lallana trying a back heel but was unable to divert the ball and was straight to de Gea. Davis then had a great chance when a poor clearance fell to him with de Gea badly placed. Davis ran in on goal and had a couple of chances to shoot but finally passed to Lambert and chance was gone. Lallana was causing loads of problems and beat his player inside out before crossing for Shaw to head over. sainst took the lead on the half hour when again Davis was able to run at the Utd defence having won the ball in midfield, again rather than shoot he passed to Lambert on his left who controlled with his left foot brought back onto his right foot and blasted past De Gea. Cue mass protests from Utd who also fell over at every challenge, looks like will still be the team to hate next year with Rooney back, Shame Mata and RVP are there as the only 2 quality players. I didnt see anything neither did Dean who even if had seen the slightest contact would have given it Utd way. Cple of minutes from a corner ball fell to Lambert whose shot was blocked. Cork got booked pulling back a rare utd attack but seemed a bit pointless as Shaw had got back to provide cover. Saints nearly added a second when again Lallana got down the left put in a great cross that davis was inches away from, think if he had tried to head it would have been enough for goal.

second half saints were not as slick, conceded when dean again gave a free kick when welbeck went down far to easily and seemed like Dean had a thing against Wanyama who he blew against every time he made a tackle yet when he was fouled nothing. Once or twice in a game maybe but this was the whole game and I really do question Dean's motive. from the free kick Mata curled into top corner, nothing that Boruc could do. Janujaz then dived inside the box, clear dive, even Dean didn't give the pen yet no booking. Cork went of to be replaced by Gallagher, brave decision but lost a bit shape and not sure why cork was chosen, Lallana then went of to be replaced by Ward Prowse and final sub was Shaw to replaced by Chmabers. now looks like Shaw is going to World cup as Cole "announced" his retirement from international football. What a crass individual could have kept quiet to lunch time but such an arrogant individual makes public now.

sainst huffed and puffed with some corners but neither side had any really clear chances.

Boruc 7 no chance with goal
Shaw 8 another great game
Fonte 7 solid game
Lovren had RVP in his pocket
Cline 7 don't rule out for WC 30 squad
Lallana 7 main threat all day for us
davis 7 lots of effort but wish a bit more positive when attacking
Cork 7 got forward well
Schneiderlin 7 kept midfield ticking over
Wanyama 7 loads of tackles tried a few long range shots picked on by Dean
Lambert 7 didn't stop trying good goal but tired for last 15 minutes
Sub

Gallagher 6 struggled really , must be easier to start the game
Ward Prowse 6 ducked a few 50/50 tackles

Thanks once again Matty for yet another excellent report. Want to give Lovren his mark out of 10 please? (I'll explain why soon)
