Suddenly the bottom three look in danger of being set adrift, we could do with a win.

13 Liverpool 9 -2 10

15 Stoke 10 -2 9
16 Sunderland 9 -3 9
17 Aston Villa 10 -6 9

depends on team selection and mentality of the players, another bad defeat and NA will be gone. For me team will be

Boruc, Fox, Yoshida, Fonte, Cline, Schneiderlin, Davies and for me Chaplow, Lallana and Ramerez behind Lambert

451 or 433 depending how you want to look at it. Would like to see Chaplow given a chance and add a bit of bite to the mdifield. If going to play Lallana and Ramerez think we have to have a stronger midfield. Plus Chaplow can allow Cline to get forward more. Will mean Fox wont have great cover but up to Lallana and ramerez to provdie some cover. Then have options on the bench, Rodrigues and Mayuka as strikers, Cork and Ward Prowes middle, Hooviledt and Shaw defence with presumably Kelvin on the bench. Does mean likes of Puncheon Lee not even on the bench, shows the difference in the standard to the championship

Would prefer Chaplow to Puncheon as although Puncheon has done okay not as good when he has to defend.

Does sort of expose why so desperate to sign Ramerez as team still doesnt look that balanced

well either a brave or foolish team selection for away from home, Lallana, Ramerez, Lambert and Rodrigues all starting sounds like 4 2 4!! was hoping for a draw, think more likely a defeat now

In answer to the question posed in the OP, the answer is no. Yet another defeat, rock bottom and not looking good. Adkins out.

Cannot see Cortese not acting now, unfortunate for Adkins but refuses to play ugly and grind out results.

Same old shyte in the post match interview from Nige. Stock interview. He'd make a good politician, trots out the same crap every time and dodges the questions. Same stupid waffle.

Reading comments on various media websites comments sections and a lot of non-Saints fans are saying 'keep Adkins'. Why? They're not the ones whose team are getting dicked week in, week out and are not the ones embarrassed by each abject performance. The only two decent performances, the Aston Villa win aside, were against the Manchesters. The rest has been abject crap.

Think a big problem now is loss of confidence, we need a couple of decent wins to make things look better. Although West Brom were clearly the better team, I didn't think tonight's performance was too bad and we could have nicked it with a bit more luck on our side.....

1. Lambert's first-half header that went straight to the keeper.
2. Lambert's shot early in the second-half that hit the woodwork.
3. The through ball from Clyne 10 minutes later that their keeper got to a moment before Gaston could reach it.
4. Near the end, the push on Lallana that should have been a penalty.

That said, I think some of our recent signings were extremely disappointing tonight. Rodriguez hardly did a thing of note and to my mind is a huge waste of money. I have very little confidence in Yoshida and don't think his style of play is suited to the English game. Mayuka may have only been on the pitch for 20 minutes or so but I honestly can't remember a single thing he did.

I think the confidence thing is a big issue. Players see the same tactics little change and must think will lose again. The buys have been disappointing, i think critiscism of Rodrigues bit unfair, was decent against west ham with no support, was better than rickie against spuds, just dont see the pair working as a unit as to similar and looking to occupy the space of each other. Yoshida has never really recovered from being thrown in at the deep end, Davies is an ok top championship player and just didnt buy what was needed.

Will never know whose fault that is but no big ugly CH that makes their presence felt, no ball winning midfield players who can tackle as well as get up and down the pitch and aside from Mayuka in flashes no great pace. Big disappointment has been no one has really stepped up from within the club. Guly talented on the ball but lazy and unable to play to a position, Fox Fonte and Hoovield struggling, Puncheon flashes but not consistent and Chaplow not even given a chance.

In my opinion we did go up a season to early which would not have been a problem if we had bought decent players with experience and early. That is Cortese, Reed and Adkins fault who should have thrown his toys out of the cot if they were not doing what he wanted.

Choice now is try and spend way out of trouble getting in 4 good players in january (LB, CB that can also play RB, big CM player and a striker bit like Matt Philips pace and able to score). Thats will be difficult to do because of where we are. Alternative is accept relegation this year and plan for bouncing back next year. In first option would sack Adkins and bring in experienced manager to buy their players not what any committee say. Second option keep Adkins and let him learn and build a team capable of bouncing straight back.

Suspect Cortese will prefer first option but not sure he has the funds available to do, so will end up with another fudge like the transfers, new manager, players we have never heard of, relgation and a mess to sort out for next season. Does show for me Cortese has made major mistakes and ought to carry the can but he won't.

I think they will try for option1 Matty, if they go down there is too much risk that they will struggle to get up again.

As I said Neville is proving a decent pundit, whether he will make a manager another question as one thing pointing out the errors and another getting players to stop them but credit where due and Neville is already one of the best pundits on TV.

have to say when you look at the goals we conceded against WBA first one Lallana was awful, lazy half challenge turning his back to allow the shot, so typical of Lallana who needs a kick up the backside as with an improvement in effort he could be a top player. second goal Fonte has Long a right fotted player on the left wing, for some reason gives him acres of space to turn inside, put ball on his right foot to deliver a decent cross. I have to disagree with the post that you cant coach out mistakes, these are basic mistakes where you should be making sure players understand the basics and make sure dont happen in a game. for Lallana if Ramerez is fit you dont have to let him start every game, he needs to understand is not indispensable or not room to improve.
