ARE NA'S DAYS AT SOUTHAMPTON NUMBERED?
From comments to the Echo it seems that even NA himself does not know how long he will be allowed to put things right.......

Re: ARE NA'S DAYS AT SOUTHAMPTON NUMBERED?
Things have gone wrong, some are Nigel's fault (questionable team selections, even more questionable substitutions and dubious tactics) while others are the fault of others (recruitment, which I think falls under the purview of Les Reed; some prat, probably Reed, as NA did want some defenders, thought that Prem-quality defenders were unnecessary and instead spent vast sums on NPC-quality players, plus Ramirez).
That said, the responsibility for what happens during training and during a match falls to the manager. Nigel has made some daft decisions and doesn't seem to know the best formation and best tactics. He seems to be panicking, rather than learning from his mistakes. I have read rumours that he and Rickie Lambert have had 'words' and that Lambert is not the only one. If Nigel's relationship with the players is deteriorating, then there's only one thing for it, he has to go and someone new brought in to try and shore things up until January when, hopefully, we can get some decent defenders in.
Changing things round doesn't always work, as we saw in the disastrous 2004/5 season when Strachan quit (and I believe he quit due to Lowe's interference), we got Sturrock in, then Wigley and then Redkrapp, but I'd say that was a one-off situation, handled incredibly badly by Rupert Lowe with Redknapp appointed as a panic measure. We need stability, sure, but not at the expense of shipping an average of three goals a game which is exactly what is happening now.
I think Nigel has lost the plot, therefore sack him now, get someone else in and try and retrieve some pride, as all we have now is 'entertainment' (if you can call conceding 24 goals in 8 games 'entertainment') and an unenviable status as the league's cannon-fodder.

Re: ARE NA'S DAYS AT SOUTHAMPTON NUMBERED?
Just sacking him now will achieve much. That is exactly how I felt leaving the ground yesterday but still think worth giving him a bit more time to show that he is learning. Is being unlucky with injuries which is denying him his main starting line up, Fox may not be great but is best LB but supposedly injured yesterday, Richardson went down injured playing other week, Cork and Lee havent played yet because of injury and doesn't appear to have the say on signings and we left to far to late to bring in the new faces, no pre season no ownder havent gelled
Watched the newcastle game this afternoon and impressed how Newcastle defended including Williamson who was a championship player, Simpson looked solid at right back and they have made some great signings not least flogging useless Carroll for £35m, their scouting system is what we should be looking at.
Still we dont really knows what goes on inside the club, rumour and innuendo but no one really knows. All we do know is will be Cortese's decision and have to say that is a bit of a worry with me, unless he has a very clear vision who he wants to bring in if looking to replace, stick with Adkins. Certainly dont want the tax cheating skate.

I agree with you there. I'd go as far as to say I'd rather do down with Adkins than stay up with Redknapp.

Re: ARE NA'S DAYS AT SOUTHAMPTON NUMBERED?
Nigel says he won't abandon the attacking style. If someone can see that something isn't working but refuses to adapt or change then that person is a bloody fool and deserving of the sack. Saints don't have the personnel to play this sort of football, simply because the defence is woeful. Adapt or die. How f*cking stupid do you have to be?

I think a bit of bravado, at home he is bound to set up to attack but think he may well go with the start up against Villa which was 442 as rodrigues played alongside Lambert not out wide. Expect to see two banks of 4 palying closer together and similar get the ball down quick.

Re: ARE NA'S DAYS AT SOUTHAMPTON NUMBERED?
While it may be time for a change, I don't want to see 'Arry back here. He had time to keep us up in 2005 but he wasn't really interested, he gave Mandaric the then owner of Portsmouth the thumbs up after we lost 4-1 there (wtf was that about?) and then pissed off back there not long into the next season. He only came to Saints to stick two fingers up at Mandaric after a falling out.
Maybe 'Arry and Lowe didn't get on, maybe Lowe didn't give him the backing he needed with money for players but that's no excuse for not trying and the twitchy c*nt didn't try. If, and that is a big IF he came back, one argument with Les Reed or Nicola Cortese and he'll chuck his teddy and walk out. I'd rather go down with Nigel Adkins than stay up with Redknapp.
I see one or two of the national papers are saying that the club are 'refusing give Nigel any backing'. I think that's based on their official Twitterings this morning which say 'we do not make comments to the Daily Echo'. To me, there is a vast difference between refusing to talk to the DE and refusing to back the manager; it shows how the media love to twist things to their advantage.

Re: ARE NA'S DAYS AT SOUTHAMPTON NUMBERED?
I certainly dont want saggy chops in St Marys as would be a backward step, simply dont trust the guy and anyone who listened to his court case wouldnt want him as poor old bloke cant even work a mobile phone he is so dim. Until we get some wins then the story will I'm afraid just gather momentum.
If he is sacked then suspect betting will be on an Italian but I could actually see Hoddle working well at St Marys. he has the tactical nouse to get the best out of players though he will not build the team ethos that Adkins has managed. He is also arrogant enough not to take any cr*p from cortese which I think Cortese would accept and think he would put Reed in his place. My hope is Reed gets the bullet for failing in the transfer side of the house but have my doubts.
Echo does not help though and has its own agenda against Cortese which for me hurts the club. Recently have had editions where not even a mention of saints in any of its sports pages. Give me a break Echo, I am all for reporting local sport etc but nothing on saints? Cortese and Echo are as bad as each other.

Re: ARE NA'S DAYS AT SOUTHAMPTON NUMBERED?
Not Shearer, I hope. He's a nice guy but anodyne and clueless.
Anyway, I do look at SaintsWeb, but don't post because of the prats on that board, but among the crap are some interesting bits and I found this, originally on Saintslist Yahoo group:
It's probably just rumour, gossip and speculation, like 95% of stuff posted on forums, but it's an interesting piece of gossip. Anyway, if NA loathes Cortese that much, why is he still here?
I've also read elsewhere that Forest have got Billy Sharp fit and he's scoring again and when he went to Forest he was unfit. This ties in with our players being 'fatigued' as NA puts it and him blaming that for not playing Rickie Lambert or subbing him after 70 minutes. Saints have the makings of a decent team which should be doing better than they are, so it makes you wonder just what the hell NA is doing?

I don't usually pass on gossip or rumour unless I am more than 50% sure
there is some truth involved, but I have just heard something that stacks up
and I am inclined to believe it, but would be grateful that if this is
passed on my fingerprints are removed.
Do you all remember how strange Adkins was after the last home game v
Coventry? Well, I have heard this evening he intended to resign soon after
the final whistle for two reasons. His relationship had/has broken down
completely with Cortese, in fact he "hates" him and so, with his reputation
intact, resignation made professional sense rather than hang on and it all
come to tears ( in the Premiership and his reputation lessened). Someone
talked him out of it, probably Les Reed. Now you can believe this or not but
it does explain why he was saying some strange things that Sunday evening

Re: ARE NA'S DAYS AT SOUTHAMPTON NUMBERED?
Yeah heard this before but if there relationship was that bad you would think would have walked before now, though does have a pretty good contract so maybe decided will leave to Cortese to act. That would explain why the players are not totally committed as they will know what is going on
Fitness for me is an issue as have been impressed by the other teams in premiership who are willing to chase and really are fit as well as skilful. I have to say I havent been impressed with our scouting system for some time, havent really come up with any great buys, cheap players that you think wow. Newcastle have a pretty good system
