Aleksandrs Cauņa has been recommended to Southampton FC via ex player Marians Pahars. The former Watford loanee could add competition in the midfield. Not sure if this is really what the Saints need at the moment?!
He is a really good player, very small in stature but technically excellent.

In regard to the Hooper saga we put in an improved offer yesterday which was pegged back by Celtic, ive heard between £5.5-6.5 million. It seems that with middlesborough now the front runners for Lukas Jutkiewicz that Southampton will rekindle their interest in Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez.
Expect a winger from the SPL to sign within the next few days. A source from inside the club has told me at least one will sign after Puncheon leaves. We have rejected a bid from Blackpool this week. He hasn't told me specifically bur hinted the potential signing will be Commons from Celtic or Driver from hearts.
Don't expect much else after these as Adkins isn't the sort of manager to sign players left right and centre.

I stated well before anyone else about the money Southampton would be willing to go for Hooper ...6 million was not expected to be accepted and sources from inside Southampton think atleast 2 more bids will be needed to get their man. Celtic are lapping this up secretly and know Cortese has plenty more to offer...danger is if Celtic call their bluff too far Southampton likely to buy Billy Sharp for 3 million.
Expect a piece in the Scottish press tomorrow from Lennon re-iterating a no sale policy.
All part of the game to keep fans happy and also to tempt much higher bid from Cortese.

Southampton will not announce any signings before the Forest match this weekend. However, before Leicester Gary Hooper and Tadanari Lee will sign. Southampton are also interested in a winger and a centre back, but they will look outside the Championship as they feel the players are overrated and overpriced there. No youth players will be leaving as they are the future of the premier league at Southampton and Jason Puncheon will be shipped off as soon as a club makes a bid, which none have yet

Well if saints have made a bid og aorund 5.5/6m for Hooper and rejected then time to move on. That is I think top price for a guy unproven at premiership and danger of getting no one if we wait for Celtic to accept the bid. Sordell of watford does have pace though thought he was pretty poor against us at st Marys then again he was well marked that day.

Would like to see any bid bringing in a player includes Puncheon going in the opposite direction so that saga is ended. Would also like to see him on the bench at least while we have injuries. sure a risk of an injury if he plays but Chaplow's latest injury was on the training ground!

Celtic agree fee in principle with Southampton for the services of Hooper as they indicate their main target for his replacement has been found and a fee agreed with his club.
Personal terms will now be discussed monday /tuesday.
Indications from within one of the clubs is 7.2 million pounds plus a player valued around 500k going the other way.(Totalling 7.7 million pounds)...3 times what was paid for Hooper 16 months ago ... The board could not turn this down.

Roma have been approached by Southampton about Stefano Okaka.
Adkins would like the striker, who has been effectively frozen out by Roma on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent transfer if he impresses.

It is understood that the 2 chairmans are speaking today regarding the 7.7 million pound transfer of Hooper to Southampton from Celtic . ( 7 million cash upfront with a player believed to be Puncheon valued at 700k)
Celtic tried to add another 500k on after yesterdays goal...Lennons games with the press will continue ..ie his 35 million pound tongue in cheek valuation of his player... expect to be announced wednesday /thursday now after personal terms have been agreed.

Tendayi Darikwa, the young Chesterfield CAM is set to have a medical with Championship high flyers Southampton. It is an undisclosed fee thought to be around a quarter of a million pounds.

Can't see why we would go for the Chesterfield youngster who hasn't featured in the league for his club and has only played a solitary game in the JPT.

Ed001's Note - As I was discussing with Ed007 earlier, homesickness is a nice convenient excuse to go if Celtic accept an offer. I have no doubt that he will go if they do, my only doubt is whether Southampton will offer enough to convince Celtic to sell now, with the league title up for grabs. Hooper is very close to Adkins and asks his advice on footballing matters, such as contract discussions, which were conveniently put on hold until the end of the season.

Well I think we have made no sceret now that Hooper is the one NA really wants partly i suspect as he knows excatly what he is getting, shame didnt try b4 start of season but would guess money is the issue. Fact that have a real chance of promotion maybe convincing NC to find the funds.

I do think we would probably be the only championship club Hooper would come to but would be surprised if premiership clubs like QPR, fulham dont make a move.

I would love to be proved wrong but I feel any chance we had has gone.

Marcello Trotta will sign for a Championship club on loan onThursday, having ended a spell at Wycombe scoring 8 in 8 - Clubs interested include - Watford, Southampton and others however he is said to be most interested in joining Crystal Palace for whom he'd be eligible to make cup appearances for.
He wants a new challenge and is keen to stay in the south, these are the teams I have been made aware of.

Hooper to Southampton seems more and more likely. Rumours coming out of Celtic Park suggest that Saints are close to offering an acceptable sum for Hooper's services. The recent commitment of club to player and player to club is a PR stunt designed to appease Celtic fans and make Southampton pay more. Hooper is doing what his current paymasters have asked of him and helping Celtic get the highest fee possible.
This deal is being made more likely by Celtics refusal to offer Hooper a new contract that would bring him in line with the top earners at the club.

might be something in the Tunisain CB, NC must hate signing foreign players as cannot stop the press releases though think would need a work permit which might complicate. Dont want Chamakn even on loan. Looks lightweight in premiership which means wouldnt get a look in against championship defenders. Think Hooper one still has some milage but we had a lot of press last year about CMS which all came to nothing.

Southampton to make a £100000 offer for Arnason (Aberdeen) to sign now rather than wait until the summer.

I can't see Saints signing another striker. We now have Lambert, Guly, Barnard, Connolly and Lee. It might be exciting to see Saints get either Hooper or Sharp but I think any signings in the next 2 days will be in central defence, a midfield warhorse or just possibly a goalkeeper.

But I'm usually wrong.
